Question about Mitsubishi WD-52525 52" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Unable to turn tv on and of.

TV is a a 12-13 year old Mitsubishi, big screen. Called repairman and he could not fix it. He said it was the on-off switch, but parts are no longer availble or very difficult to find.

This is the first trouble we've had with this set. Can it be fixed? Does anyone know of parts for this set?

Here's the info:
Model: TS-5087
Manufactured: November 1995 M1LA

If no parts is available have it converted, since it is only a switch. any switch will serve its purpose as long it has the same power rating

Tv will not switch on - when you press power on the remote the tv goes to switch itself on and then switches off straightaway

I've answered three of these so far, so this problem must be a very large manufacturer's defect big among large-screen LCD TVs of a bunch of different makes.
It's a power capacitor inside the TV that controls whether the power supply works or not. Our Samsung 46-inch started doing the same thing with about 2 months of a 2-year warranty left in it, and I'm glad we called the local retailer, because they were aware of this problem and gave us the number to Samsung, who paid to send a trained repairman about 60 miles to our house to fix it. During his repair, I helped him remove the large back cover, and set the TV on its face, and asked him about the problem. He detailed to me exactly what I said above, and also that it's been a very big problem with the rush to get new TVs out to market.
If your TV is still under warranty, jump on this situation before it runs out--it is a hardware problem, not fixable otherwise...
If it's out of warranty, your local TV repairman should be able to repair this for less than $100, easy (the part on ours was a $2 capacitor, the repairman said).
Hope this helps.

White dots appearing on Mitsubishi 1080p DLP tv.

Actually you must replace the DLP chip that is buried deep in the works of the tv. Unfortunately this can run into a nice lump of change. Do what I did. Perhaps you've heard the old addage

I have dull areas in my screen (rear projection Mitsubishi WD-62725) the screen is clean, should I clean the mirror an how.

Good Day, tomdebseth;

If these dull areas are soft ball in size and look kind of like fuzz balls, then more then likely the optical engine (light engine) is defective. This part is a bit pricey, $600.00 to $1,200.00. Since your TV is only 4 years old you should go to the manufacture and to get them to pay for this repair. A DLP TV "light engine" should last longer then that.

Good Luck, big IRISH. ps cleaning won't help.
