My Toshiba SP2100 won't turn on

Hi. My Toshiba SP2100 won't turn on. It's quite an old laptop, but I haven't had any problems with it before. I've tried taking out the battery and holding down the power button for 20 secs. It works afterwards, but only for a few seconds and then goes off again...Any suggestions would be very welcome!

Hi Luke Haag,

This is a common problem we see in the shop. However, you've gone to extreme in troublshooting! My guess is a component is overheating, and since you didn't mention the Ram, I would replace that and see what happens. Also, is the system taking and holding a charge? If the battery is bad, or the power-adaptor isn't delivering electricity to the battery/board, it may eb shutting off simply because there is no more power.

Please check those things and let me know how it turns out.

Good luck!

I haven't turned the camera on for a couple of years. I've tried charging the battery, but I can't get it to power up. Do I need to replace battery or is it something else?

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

First of all, try to unplug the battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds,
then plug in the charger.
If the notebook boot, then plugin the battery and try to boot it.
If booted , then N!ce, you've done it.

If not, it seems the battery have problem,

Let's see, try it and tell us your result.

Hi, I've had my Acer aspire laptop for a few years now, but I haven't used it for over a year (Because I got a desktop). So when I've come to turn it on today, It won't work. The screen...

Start with pulling the battery and power, then hold the power button in for about 30-40 seconds. Then plug the power back in (still no battery). Try to power up the computer. If it boots, shut it down and put the battery in and try again. If it boots the issue was cleared. If it boots with the power cord but not with the battery added, you have a battery issue.

Hope this helps

Toshiba Satellite C655-S5082. Won't power on. Worked fine last night. Today it won't turn on. Plug it it and no power light. With power cord plugged in when I push the power button the light for...

Hi.

Take out the AC power jack and then remove the laptop battery. Plug AC power back in and see if the laptop will turn on. If it turns on let it boot the operating system and then shut down as normal, remove the power cord and reinsert the battery and again see if it will switch on. If it does then there has been a glitch with the battery. If it doesn't then there is a problem with the battery.

If the laptop won't switch on either with or without the battery then there is a possibility that the motherboard has developed a problem.

Good luck.

TOSHIBA
Remove Laptop Battery Remove Memory Cover Spread spring clips to outside and pull out RAM memory Remove clear vinyl label opposite RAM memory slots In the upper left corner you will see JOPEN1 with a white silkscreen square Inside the square you will see what looks like the letter T over a U. Using a metal paper clip short the U to the Silver 1/4"post connecting the motherboard to the laptop case and hold it for 25 -30 seconds. Place back your RAM memory, put in the laptop battery and test start laptop. you should see a selection of F1 or F2 for setup. Using the F2 gets you into the Bios menu where you reset the time and date. Then Tab over to the SECURITY setting tab and change your passwords. Then hit F10 key
