After you lift the ribber cover located on top of the hvt you'll see two grooves in the plastic near where the red wire goes in,you'll also see a hard plastic ring that locks into the two grooves i mentioned. find a pair of needle nose pliers thin enough to press on both grooves at the samr time while pulling on the red wire without breaking the plastic ring.

Check circuit board for bulging at the top capacitors. The board you are looking for is the one with the flyback transformer. This transformer is the one with a thick red wire going to the top of it. Replace all bulging capacitors. Capacitors are the ones that look like little cans. While you are there resolder the bottom solder points on the flyback transformer. This should work, because it worked for me.

A 1995 60 inch rca good picture and sound. Then it started a cracking noise and a hissing sound, then the picture went blurry. then it was nice picture and sound, then it died. took the back off and turned out the lights. Plugged the tv in and out from the wall socket and there was a sparking noise and a small arc when i plugged it in and out a few times ,at the part that the power plug plugs into. The white part that is beside the white power plug part has thick red wire coming out of it and goes into another plug that has more red wires in it. but the big white part beside the power plug part looks burnt and has black powder on it. that part is probably the problem but maybe not, what it the name of that part and how much would it cost and is it plugged in or soldered.

the flyback is the transformer with the RED wire that resembles a spark plug wire you can get one at the following link for under 50 dollars and comes with free tech support by way of on line instant messageing. They sell that flyback which is a part prone to failure. Its the only RCA flyback that they stock. Heres the link.

Rca 52" projection tv 3 flashing lights, then powers off

If you see the flyback. That has a large red wire resembling a sparkplug wire. That wire goes into the splitter. There will be 3 more red wires coming from the splitter going to the CRTs. Just take the one wire that goes from the flyback and place that in the glass jar. Now some models have the splitter built into the flyback if thats your vase scenario you will need to replace the flyback. No way to test that properly unless you have a ringer to test it with. let me know how you make out.

Possible short and safety is keeping the set from burning up. A service man should be able to find the short hopefully in a small amount of time.
