FIRST YOUR OUTSIDE UNIT PROVIDES HEAT BY USING A REVERSING VALVE TO CHANGE THE REFRIGERANT FLOW.THERE IS NO HEAT STRIPS OUTSIDE SECOND YOUR EMERGENCY HEAT TURNS ON ELECTRIC ELEMENTS INSIDE YOUR AIRHANDLER UNIT.IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE HAS WIRED YOUR UNIT WRONG OR HAS THE THERMOSTAT SET IMPROPERLY.WHEN THE HEAT PUMP CANNOT SATTISFY THE SETPOINT THE THERMOSTAT IS SUPPOSED TO TURN ON YOUR ELEC. HEAT UNTILL THE LOAD HAS BEEN REACHED AND THE HEAT PUMP CAN CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN IT.

SOURCE: Ruud achiever heat pump

If back-up heat comes on when a/c is turned on and then the back up heat turns off shortly after the a/c turns off, then the low voltage wiring is NOT correct. Your "R" terminal is basically your "hot" and your "C" terminal is basically your "neutral" to simplify explanation. The Furnace supplies the "R" power to the thermostat and then depending on what wire the thermostat sends the power back on determines what the system does. The thermostat terminals are as follows "G" is fan, "W" or "aux" is elect heat, "Y" tells the outdoor unit to run, "O" or "B" tells the outdoor unit whether it is heating or cooling, and "E" is emergency heat. "G" should connect from the t-stat directly to the furnace and go no further. "W" or "aux" AND "E" should both connect to your "W" or "W1" terminal in the furnace, there should also be a "W" connection to the heat pump ( this allows the H/P to turn on the elect heat when the unit defrosts) "Y" and "O" or "B" may or may not connect to a terminal in the furnace, usually they just pass through the furnace from the t-stat to the H/P and get wire nutted in the furnace. Now, here is the key. As I mentioned previously "O" or "B", a system will only use one or the other. The entire industry (except for Rheem and Ruud) uses the "O" terminial which has 24v on it when you are cooling and no power when you are heating. Rheem and Ruud use the "B" terminal which is just backwards, 24v in heating and no power in cooling. this could also be your problem if the t-stat thinks it is telling the H/P to cool but the H/P is actuall interpreting the signal to heat. Check your amp draw on the furnace, if you have anything drawing 15 amps+ then it is most likely the actual elect heat running, if not then check the "B" terminal. Most universal t-stats come set from the factory to use the "O" terminal which is more common. Usually this can be changed in the installer setup menu on the stat or sometimes the stat will have separate "O" and "B" terminals

i would check the blades on the condenser fan motor and make sure they are not hitting anything if they are not, spin the fan see if the fan spin freely, it should, if it doesn't it could be the bearing in the motor are dry and going bad

It takes about 4-5 minutes to change over from cooling mode to heat.

I have a Fujitsu Model No ASTG24KMCA. the heat settings says that it will only heat if the temp goes below 10 degrees. Is it possible to adjust the settings so the heating will work at a higher temp?

From the owners manual:
TEMP Buttons:
Sets the desired temperature.
In COOL or DRY mode, the temperature needs to be set lower than
the current room temperature. In HEAT mode, the temperature needs
to be set higher than the current room temperature.
Otherwise, corresponding operation mode may not start. Temperature setting range AUTO/COOL/DRY 18-30 °C HEAT 16-30 °C

A four year old Fujitsu split system works fine in all modes except the heat mode. Have turned off the main power source for 45 seconds, no change. Can you help please. Model # AST30RBA-W

As stated, sounds like a reversing valve issue, likely need a technician. What exactly happens when in heating? Does it run, still cold, just warm not hot???

We just moved into a rental. It has the Fugitsu wall-mounted Air-conditioner model: ar-jw2 but, there was no manual left behind and we are trying to use the heat, however, it just blows cool air, we're not...

Look, if you select a temperature above ambient temperature, it will switch from cooling to heating.(assuming that the aircon has a heat pump. most do these days.) Just dont rush the aircon because every time you make a setting change, it takes a while to regulate.

Fujitsu heatpump 13 years old is not heating room as it used to.filters are clean.i have gauges and would like to know what pressures are good and what pressures indicate low refrigerant or worn...

The refrigerant and compressor are related in cooling the room.As for heating problem the thermostat needs to be checked.
if you're used to a certain temperature of air and your heat pump is producing much cooler air, take the following steps. (Note that a heat pump may go into a defrost mode to prevent icing. When this happens, it can temporarily output cold air. Also be aware that the heat pump will have to work harder to produce heat.)

1) First be sure the thermostat is set properly. Try raising the set temperature 5 degrees F. and waiting a few minutes.

2) Be sure the room-heating registers are open.

3) Check the heat pump filter. If it's dirty, change it.

4) Be sure the auxiliary heating elements are working .

5) Clean the coils of the outdoor condensing unit.
If still the same problem then thermostat needs to be checked and replaced.
Thanks.

Fujitsu split system not working

Hi, I know its a split as you have noted, and I am sure it would be a ductless heat pump system. Unless you are having a problem programming the t-stat, the manual would be of little help on these units.I wish you would have given more on the symptoms, like does it blow cold air or either unit will not work? You say it will not heat. On a H.P., it could be many things.Lets say its blowing cold air. Check the outdoor unit to make sure it comes on in the heat mode also, and the fan is on.Make sure you turn the heat up far enough to bring on the outdoor unit 1st. If it doesn't come on, then find the breaker to see if it is tripped. If yes, turn off hard and on again hard. if it stays on, great. If not, then It gets more complicated as compressor may have shorted out. Please check these things for me, please so we can solve this for you. On a heat pump, if you loose a compressor lets say, you have electric heat strips in the indoor unit that should come on if you have a switch on the T-stat that will say emergency heat. Try and use this setting to see if you can get some heat. I am trying to offer a solution to get you some temp. heat until we locate the main problem. If the indoor or outdoor units are not running at all, check for power at all breakers, and, check program on t-stat to make sure you set on heat, fan to auto, and temp to where you are comfortable. From here after checking all of these solutions, let me know what the status is and if it did not work, to tell me more of the original symptoms so I can go from there. Best of Luck,
Sincerely,
