Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

Not picking up

My vacuum made an awful noise a few weeks ago and then started smoking. That is not happening anymore after we thoroughly cleaned the vacuum, but now it doesn't pick up very well anymore. It looks like there is movement but not much is actually coming into the clear trays.

I bought this 7 months ago -- what is the warranty on this?

The filters probably need cleaning. The filters on new Dysons block very quickly initially because of how much they pick up. Youll probably remember the feelings of astonishment and shame at how much dirt was picked up on first use. I know I was

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

An unusual noise like this can often be caused by something simple, like a part or a seal slightly out of position. I appreciate you've checked your DC14 thoroughly for issues, but we're usually able to diagnose the cause most effectively by listening to the machine over the phone.

When you have your DC14 easily to hand, I would encourage you to give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call to speak with our experts. You can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Hi, I have a question, I just got my vacuum 3 mouths ago and it shuts-off?

Your new filter should last more than a week but you may have to clean it thoroughly after each use. One problem with vacuums that do not have a bag is the surface area of the filter is usually not very big so it does not take much fine dust to clog the pores of the filter. If air can't pass through the filter the motor will get hot and shut off.

Fix it yourself? Perhaps. You need to open up the compartment where the Motor Drive is located. Inside you may find a Motor Belt that has gone bad and needs replacement. The manufacturer has replacement belts. They are easy to put on...so go for it.

Hoover makes terrible screaching sound when using upright.

It's most likely the bushings/bearings in the beater bar (roller). The beater bar cover is fairly easy to remove -- take it off and investigate. Could be that the roller only needs lubricating on the ends. Also, check the belt to see if it's intact or damaged.

Clean area thoroughly.

If this is not the problem, please, let me know.

Eureka Vacuum is smoking!

The brush roll is probably not spinning properly. It may have dust and hair under the end caps. Try to remove the end caps to clean under them. If it is 5 years old it likely needs a new brush roll anyway.
