Question about LG 50PX1D 50 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

Heard a loud "pop" then no picture.

I ordered the " Z SUS " ASSEMBLY (part # is 6871QZH044C) as indicated by others. Not too difficult. Picture was restored, but no color.
Not sure if the replacement board was faulty or if I have another problem.

The Z-Sustain board should not have any affect to the colour. Try using your remote control & go into the set up menu & try a factory re-set option. This will take it back to the default settings when it was first left the factory.

LG Plasma 42pc3d turns on, pops, then turns off

The first thing you should look into is the Z-SUS board, the one situated on the right side viewed from the rear. This board develops a high voltage during operation that might be the source of the popping sound. It is also responsible in refreshing the panel for proper picture display. The weird colors on your TV indicates a faulty Z-SUS board.
Note: Unplug the TV and wait for at least five minutes in order to allow the voltages to drain before you disconnect or reconnect any connector.

  • Disconnect the Z-SUS board from the Y-SUS board. The Z-SUS board is situated on the right side viewed from the rear of the TV while the Y-SUS is on the left.
  • Plug the TV back and turn it on.
  • You will still be able to see the weird colors the moment the TV shut off but do not flash. If it does not pop and stays on and there's a sound, you are pretty sure the Z-SUS board is faulty. Replace it.
  • If it still pops and shuts off, disconnect the Y-SUS board from the power supply. The Y-SUS board also develops a high voltage during operation. The power supply is the one right between the Z and Y-SUS boards.
  • Re-apply AC power then turn the TV on.
  • You'll not be able to see any color or video. If it does not pop and stays on with sound, you have a faulty Y-SUS board, replace it.
  • If it still pops and shuts off, please let me know.
Feel free to update me of the result and your own findings.

I heard a loud popping sound and the picture was gone. I can hear the sound and change channels but I do not have a picture

NO it's not his LAMP. It's a plasma, it doesn't have a lamp. It is a sustainer board. I'm not going to tell you which one to replace because there are several. Do some research. About 60% of the time it's the Y SUS board. That's what I just changed and I'm up and running. If you have played that game "Operation" as a kid or changed a graphics card on a computer you can do this. I had NO experience in electronics repair but took a chance and bought the part and put it in. Took less than an hour. All you need is a screw driver, needle nose pliers and patience. Good luckl.

Heard a loud pop and picture went bad, very bad.

Loud pop is usually (99%) a capacitor. More than likely on the power supply. Needs to be serviced.

Tv made a loud pop sound then went black...sound and all functions are normal just no picture

This is a common failure in many PLASMAs. One of the boards in the TV blew. Most likely It is going to be the Y-sus but could have also taken out the Z-sus(sometimes called the X-sus) and the Y-drives. These boards put and maitian the picture on the screen. The best way to tell is to check the voltages on the boards to see how extensive the damage was but I would defintly start with the Y-sus.

One of the SUS panels will be defect. On these panels you will find several fuses, the panel with the broken fuse must be replaced.
Sus panels are the panels with the big cooling blocks.

Hello,

Planars can be difficult televisions to work on. The company is really only a shadow company that doesn't have any parts or service literature.

That being said, you probably have a shorted bridge rectifier on this TV. That was more than likely the pop you heard. If you have electronics experience, check the secondary on the power supply, specifically the feeds for the X and Y SUS. Also, there are always bad capacitors in these sets, so it might have been an electrolytic capacitor exploding.

If you don't have electronics experience, and have a competent repair shop nearby, they may be able to get you back up and running again for under $200.00. But they may not guarantee it to stay working for any length of time.

Hope this helps you...

You'll need to replace the Y sus & Z sus to complete the repair! The Y sus is what has made the z sus pop! Trust me! Also it is recommended to replace the Y drive or drives. Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions! I'm more then happy to help you fix your TV!
