Tempstar Air Conditioner wont come on

Sounds like you need a new contactor in the condenser. The low voltage is grounded. Remove the low voltage (likely 2 wires) at the condenser and wire nut the wires leading inside. With an insulated screwdriver manually push in the contactor and be sure both compressor and fan run. Then replace fuse and turn power on to air handler with a call for cooling. Obviously the outdoor unit won't run because you unhooked the low voltage but if fuse doesn't trip then it's likely the contactor. Good Luck

Contactor not pulling in on 24 volts after changing out all parts: defrost board, contactor, cap, fan relay, transformer and heat sequence

Set the thermostat so that the a/c should be on. Make sure you have 24vac at the contactor. If you don't recheck your wiring. Also you can go to the thermostat and install a jumper between R and Y. The contactor should pull in. If it does, your thermostat may be the problem. Let me know what you find so I can offer more advice.

A/c outside unit is not working- fan will not work.

I assuming that the black box is a 100 amp breaker, which is connected to your condsensing unit (outside unit). If you open the box and pull the fuse then this will turn off/kill the power to your unit. As far as the buzzing noise it could be that the contactor is engaged. Hopefully, your fan motor is burnt out or the capicator is bad. If you take the access cover off and check for voltage at the contactor you should know if it is the fan motor. The voltage will come in at the bottom T1 T2 T3, once the contactor is engaged L1 L2 L3 will have the same power. Of course if your contactor is not engaging then thats the probelm, you can manual engage the contactor by pushing it in. There will be four wires two running to the capicator and the other to the contactor, these are the wires that control the fan motor. The other three wires run to your compressor. Hope this Helps Tim

When i turn the a/c on the inside furnace motor runs but the outside compressor units does not. the compressor is a janitrol, about 20 years old

Does the outdoor fan run? If not then start by checking for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses. If you have power then check the capacitor. If that is good then check your contactor for the fan and compressor. If that is good then check the compressor motor windings. Let me know if you have any questions.

Air handler is running but outside unit fan is not running. Just a buzzing noise.

The buzzing if it is real loud is a very wore out contactor and could be the cause of your unit not running. Check your circuit breaker. you'll likely need service and have the unit cleaned for best performance. Good luck Tom

Airconditioner wont come on

Does the indoor blower come on? If not you might have a low voltage problem in your thermostat circuit or blown breaker or fuse for your furnace which energizes the contactor outdoors. If indoor blower runs check if their are any fuses in your outdoor disconnect.

Outside fan does not kick on just buzzes

The buzzing noise sounds like the contactor is energizing and if it is then you need to check to see if you have power 230 volts to the outdoor unit, if not, check the fuses or breaker, if you do have power then you may have a broken or burnt wire inside the outdoor unit.

Buzzing on unit

Is the buzzing in the outdoor half of the system? If so
your possibilities are.
buzzing could be the contactor. In the control compartment on the side of the unit there is a small brown component that has wires to one side and the other . There are contacts in the center like points on a car. If the points are pulled in look for ants in between the contacts. Always secure power to the outdoor unit before touching anything inside. If the points are pulled in check your breaker to the outdoor unit. Turn the breaker off then back on. Breakers sometimes trip but look ok.
Buzzing could be thee coil to the contactor itself, sometimes with age the coil will breakdown and cause noise.
if you give me more information I can focas in closer to a solution
