SOURCE: Kenmore 80 series electric dryer will not start even though the door switch switch appears functional and power is getting to the timer.

Easy fix. I had the same problem on mine. You need access to the back. Remove back cover. Look at bottom left, you will see two blue wires going to a white plastic item next to one of the thermal sensors. This white plastic piece is a fuse, or fusible link if you like. I'm not sure what the rating is, but you can take the old one to a parts store. They can match it. Now, why did it blow? Well, if the dryer is old, it could be just worn out. But more than likely, one of your 230 volt lines has degraded due to a bad connection, thus drawing more amps, thus blowing the fuse. Look at where the power cord comes in at. Is there any discoloration or oxidation at the terminals? If so, replace the power cord at this time, and try to clean up the terminals as best you can. Also, at this time, you probably better take a look at the lint collector duct running along the left side down the back. It's probably so clogged with lint that your dryer does't dry as fast anymore, and air flow from the exhaust is restricted. Take the duct off and clean it out, or blow it out with compressed air. You should be up and running now. Have fun...

Roper electric dryer wont start

Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

What to Test When Whirlpool or Kenmore Dryer Won Start or Run

All lights come on but dryer will not start it just clicks a samsung dryer model # DV350AEW-XAA

Having had a dryer do this before, it can be one of a couple of things. The fusible link connected to the heater has burned out because of too much lint in the exhaust, and when that safety fuse is out most dryers do nothing. They're easy to check, with the power off, check for continuity.(Warning: Unplug before testing) If it's open, it's not working, there's usually two sensors, and two thermostats, make sure you test the fuse/sensor. It will usually have a wires coming from the starter switch, same color (possibly red or blue). The starter switch solenoid is working, which is the click; but, the fuse may be bad.
The other thing is the timer, you would probably have noticed problems with the timer before this, like noises, having to move the dial to get it to start, wiggling it to get it to start, missing cycles, stalling and having to manually move it to the next stage, or spot, things like that; but, if the fuse is good it could be the timer.

It also might be the door switch, though one doesn't usually hear the solenoid click if it's the door, that varies by model though.
The timer being a more expensive replacement, we like to test other things first; save money and get the right thing fixed.

Good luck!

Timer clicks on dryer but want work

A lot of times the small white fuse will melt and kill the door switch circuit on these.

I removed a bunch of junk from this one's blower housing/filter chute:

So if your door switch is fine check the thermal limit:

Ya might want to give that Roper dryer a good going over. I did a complete overhaul of a Roper dryer and took some photo's for DIY folks: Roper dryer tuneup

Roper dryer will not start. Had just finished drying a load of clothes, put in the next load and it wouldn't start. The timer still ticks.

Maybe you door switch has broken?
8_17_2011_3_47_39_pm.jpg
The little tab should click.
Another possibility is dryer overheat due to lint buildup

8_17_2011_3_48_56_pm.jpg8_17_2011_3_49_47_pm.jpg
8_17_2011_3_52_38_pm.jpgSee that white skinny thing mounted next to the air temp control thermostat? That thing will melt if too much junk gets into the lint filter or vent pipe. If it does it kills the door circuit and the dryer is dead in the water. More here

Rex4635eq2 electric dryer. all switches and fuses check out. Nothing comes on and the timer doesnt move or make a clicking noise when i push the start button. what do you think? Timer? Gary

You need to check your door switch and thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is located behind the back panel at about 6 oclock. If the thermal fuse is bad, you need to make sure the vent is clean.

Try check your timer, and see if you have voltage going to motor. Also check to see if you belt is installed. If broken there is a switch to the belt also. Try check you Door Lid Switch.
