Question about Toshiba TW40F80 40" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Tv clicks on red light comes on then begins to blink no picture

I had a similar problem with another toshiba tv it just started to go blank i could bump the side of the tv which would some times return on the picture but it got to become so annoying so i got rid of it then my larger toshiba tv did the same thing a few months latter so if i can fix it at a low cost id like to if not should i just junk it and get a tv latter on. basically i just want to know if it is a simple easy thing to repair. Ive unplugged it and pluged it in many times some times it will work and the picture will come back but mostly it just makes a clicking sound, the red light turns on then begins to blink and no picture comes on is it the IC or a bulb?

Well it seems more to be an issue with the ballast, that doesn't have enough voltage to keep on with the lamp. And the ballast is trying to ignite, that's why you hear that clicking sound. Ballast are not that expensive, they're running around 60-70 dlls, It's worth to try.

I have a toshiba 50hm67 tv and with mine the blue light would come on and I would hear sound first and then the picture would finally come on... this happend for about a month.... next the yellow and blue light would come on but the pic still wouldn't come on until it clicked off and on by itself for about 10 min this went on for about a week. All of a sudden last night the red lights by the power light started blinking. No tv now and when the tv shut off it said lamp not working.

Blinking power light

Start by counting the red blinks. This will hopefully tell you what the problem is. Then check back with the number of blinks.

Blinking red light

I had the same similar problem and through the process of unplugging and re-plugging the set I finally got the set to come on and stay on, then smoke started coming from the back of the tv from a convergence chip. What I found out was that the chip shorted out tripping the tv safety and I overcame that burning the bad chip completely out eliminating the short but with the blue color off. The chips generally are only $5-10 from partstore.com -
BTW - I think this is one of the better picture quality projection tv's out there compared to my hitachi, sony, and rca and even a friend's mitsubishi.
