Question about HP Computers & Internet

Aftermarket laptop battery (high capacity) only charges when off

I have an aftermarket laptop battery (high performance 12 cell - original was only 9) that is quite new but it has never charged when the laptop is running. if I power down it charges fine. performace is always good. Any reason? Does the extra capacity battery require more power to run and charge and the adaptor cant cope doing both?

Any help would be awesome!

    What would that do?

I'm pretty sure it has been on charge for longer than 24 hours straight before.

    Thanks

I think you have an extra zero in that mAh rating...Make sure to fully charge and discharge a couple of times for full capacity and longevity of the battery.

Looking for the longest battery life laptop ?

We’ve yet to see a Windows laptop with battery life longer than 5~7 hours, unless we add an extended battery to the system. But when hpand dell launched its new series of laptops last week, one big push wasfor longer battery life.

When you purchase your notebook, charge the battery to 100 percent, discharge it completely, and then fully charge it to 100 percent againto help the battery remember exactly how much electrical charge it canhold. From then on, you’ll never need to completely discharge the laptop battery again, but always make sure when charging it that you let it reach 100 percent. DeHoop told us to “remember to plug in the laptop AC adapter(or dock/port replicator) whenever you get a chance. Most notebookswill recharge quickly.” Salinas had another tip for your batteries:“Keep them cool. Exposure to high temperatures can be a battery’s worstenemy,” he said

Hope the list can give you some help when you purchase a laptop or battery:

Lenovo x201, new battery, after 30-1 hour computer shuts down, no warning, not an issue when using AC power, original battery never had that issue

If this is a aftermarket battery that would explain your problem, they don't have the same specifications that the original has, and the power capacity is less, the only way to solve the problem is to replace it with a genuine rechargeable battery.

I have "INSPIRON 6400" and

The best and cheapest solution is probably for you to purchase one of the aftermarket batteries you have been researching. While they may be physically compatible, original Dell components are often designed to identify themselves, and they tend to resist being mixed-and-matched. Aftermarket manufacturers have developed strategies to avoid the authentication process.
Before you give up, though, be sure to try this trick: simultaneously press Fn and either F2 or F3 (which ever one has the battery icon printed on it). If you've unwittingly pressed this combination, you may have disabled the charging process. Try it with BOTH batteries--the battery that originally shipped with the Inspiron 6400 may not be dead after all!

I have an aftermarket battery charger and a lithium ion battery, the charger goes through the process of charging the battery but when it is placed back in the camera it isn't charged?

Bummer - sometimes aftermarket works, sometimes not. You can try your original (OEM) battery on the aftermarket charger. If that works, the problem is likely the battery. Even if aftermarket, the manufacturer should guarantee it works, so I'd return it and either buy a different aftermarket product or cough up the (BIG) $$$ and get the real deal from Canon.

New aftermarket Inspiron 6000 battery will not power the Laptop

I would say that the power management portion of the system board is probably faulty if it behaves the same with both the factory battery and the aftermarket.

Many systems have the charge controller and battery interface on a separate board but unfortunately on the Inspiron 6000 it's integrated.

FYI, Here's a copy of the service manual for that system: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/sm/index.htm

Battery doesn't charge

Is that the original power cord for that? Or was that one bought aftermarket, some aftermarket chargers will only power your laptop and not charge.

Batery charge

It's one of two things, the more likely of the two is that that battery is totally shot, laptop battery's are usually only good for 1.5 years then loose there ability to retain a charge. It sounds like that one's just done. Unfortunately that those batteries cost more than there worth, 100 bucks or more. The second possibility is the power cord, is that the original power cord for that? Or was on that was bought aftermarket, some aftermarket chargers will only power your laptop and not charge. Also remove the battery and check for corrosion. You can build your own battery for a laptop if got a few hours time, and are good with a soldering gun. You get the lithium ion cells you need for about 40 bucks.Follow the below link for a step by step on how to build your own battery
