Unplug the unit for electric power.

Remove the plastic clamshell covers.

Clean out ALL of the dirt and insect debris. You can use a garden hose.

Locate the contactor. It is a box with heavy wires coming out of it which lead directly to the compressor.

Check continuity of the points in the contactor with an ohmmeter. You should see zero ohms across the points (they usually burn out after a few years of use). With the ohmmeter attached, when you tap the contactor box and you see a change in resistance, they are definitely bad.

Replace the contactor or if you are bold enough, drill out the rivets and disassemble so you can see the points, if they are burned, clean and polish them, reinstall.

Works for an hour then blows warm. shut it off for two or three hours and it works for another hour or two. unit is two years old 18,000 btu unit

Clean the outdoor coil, slide it out of the case and use a garden hose to it, keeping water out of the rest of the unit, sounds like the coil is dirty, clean it good until the water runs clean every inch of the coils and you should be running again.

The panel turns on but the motor does not turn on. The electronic panel is on but the ac has a humming sound without the motor or the compressor turning on.

Hi, This being 18,000 BTU is a 240 volt unit. The electronic in it work at 120 volts. I believe you have only 1/2 the electrical current going to it. Thus the Hum. CHECK YOUR FUSES OR CIRCUIT BREAKER!
A 240 volt circuit breaker has two sides or switches with a bridge between them. One of them may be tripped. Shut off the breaker wait a few seconds then turn it on so that the it engages all the way. It if clicks or pushes your fingers back and prevents you from engaging it, there is a problem likely with the compressor/fan or it's wiring, and it is drawing too much current and requires repair or replacement.

Hope this helps,
Best, Mark

AMCOR 24,000 BTU split system. Worked fine two years, then today it had no power. Checked circuit breaker, it had popped. Reset CB and went to inside unit - would not turn on or off with remote or hard...

I had this same problem. I disconnected the thermostat wire out side at the condenser and reconnected it and it started working. A couple days later it blew the breaker again this time I found the bus where the L1, L2. GR wire connect at the condenser had melted. I wire nutted all 3 wires instead of the using the bus everything is working right again. Hope this helps.

Just put in a new ac unit and replaced a old one. old unit was 18000 btu and the new one is on 12,000 btu I used the same power outlet but the new ac unit starts up but then shuts down and seems like it is...

The 18,000 btu A/C is 230 volts, are you sure the 12,000 btu unit is 230 volts most are 120 volts.
Usually 12,000 btu is the biggest 120 volt A/C you can buy.

Need the BTU rating for an old Kenmore K948991 a/c

Your model number is not complete enough for a model check.
However, 18,000 btu in todays' units is what you need.

Fridge keeps tripping the circuit breaker

get an inexpensive clamp amp meter (Harbor Freight has them). Turn off power to the plug. Remove plug from wall but do not disconnet wires. turn fridge OFF. plug the unit in the recept. turn on the power. set the meter for the higest reading (amps) & clamp it around the black wire. turn the fridge ON & observe start up current & the "run" current. If the fridge is within limits on the data plate the problem is in the wiring circuit, maybe a loose connection either @ the plug or the breaker. if there are several plugs in the circuit, the problem could be in one of them. In addition, if there is a gfi plug in this circuit, it could be faulty also.

Circuit breaker

Happy to assist,

HOW MANY BTU IS THE AIR CONDITIONER?
And is it 110 or 220 line!

If it is using 110 or 115 volts like normal house current and it throws circuit breakers in your electric box, then you need to run a dedicated line just for the Air Conditioner!
Usually this happens to 110 -115 volt air-conditioners that are more than 12,000 BTU and do not have a dedicated electric line in the wall only for the air conditioner!

New air conditioners have a circuit breaker built into the units plug!
And I have seen some that throw that breaker to off frequently even if it's only an electric surge! Which it should not do!
if its the case and it's new, take it back to the store and ask for a different model, size, or brand!
Fedders had an 18,000 BTU/ 110-115 volt unit that did this with every single unit last year! I stopped selling that unit only!!
