Try applying new cooling pest between cpu heatsink and cpu. Heat from cpu surface should be quickly transferred to heat sink. Either coolent problem or heatsink doesnot properly fit on cpu. But be carefull, you need an 'EXPERT' to do this, or you end up damaging everything.

There is a long silver button with a black moon on the upper left of my keyboard. When I accidentally hit it, the screen goes black. What is it.....and how do you get your screen back?

Hi,
Depending on how your keyboard is configured, that key is set to do one of two things:
  1. Puts your computer to sleep. (A low power state where almost everything is shut off, including the monitor). You can resume from sleep by hitting any key on the keyboard, hitting the power button on your computer, or clicking the mouse.
  2. Puts your computer into hibernation. (An even lower power state where everything is actually shut off, but a copy of everything open is saved to the hard drive to be opened during start up. It basically allows you to turn off the computer, but be able to turn it back on with program exactly how you left it). You can resume from hibernation only by hitting the power button on your computer.
Hope this helps. If it does, please accept and rate the solution! You can leave a testimonial or contact me with any more questions you may have. Thanks for using FixYa!

HI I have a D865 PERL m/b. The CPU overheated, due to a load of dust blocking the heatsink fins. I have cleaned it all up and the heatsink should be fine now, but when I try and boot I get a message...

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
or
During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer
Also you might try
Turn Off the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10 key,ie: Alt+F10, it will open the recovery console ,select full factory restore and follow on screen instruction. (Note:this will erase all datas on the computer)
hope this helps

Cannot conect presario V4000 to projector

Set your screen-resolution to 800-by-600 at 60 Hz.
Then, use Fn-F4, to see if the projector accepts 800-by-600 input.

Monitor goes black after running for a few minutes. Brand new 22 inch sceen.I prees the button to turn it on and it says Analog and goes black again. I have to shut down the computor to get it to come back...

Sounds like the computer is shutting it down and the monitor is fine. Check for viruses then check your settings in device manager for the screen saver and power down (screen off) options.

Fan Malfunction??

Sounds like a heat issue, pop the side of your case open and turn on the PC, are there fans not moving? Take a close look at your processor fan if there is one.

Thermal Shutdown

first, try to check the heatsink of the processor if it is full of dust and the air flow from the processor fun cannot penetrate to the processor.
second, double check the brackets that holds the heatsink to the motherboard, bcoz in most cases for socket 478, those bracket will easily get cracked due to aging, the reason the heatsink will not totally hit the processor.
third, remove the thermal pad on the heatsink and replace new one.
if you're done with the above mentioned, and still the same problem exist, may be there is something wrong with the sensor of the motherboard the reason it registered a wrond temp of the processor, but this cases rarely happens, but still it does.

On/Off problems

It sound as if there is a system file error. If you havent already, try booting up in safe mode (F8) on start up and when and if it allows you highlight 'Last known good configuration' and hit enter for a restart. If still nothing you need to insert your windows installation disc and hit enter when prompted. This will run a file installation, but not a format and when the files have installed you will have the choice to install windows or repair; select repair for system file installation.
