There is a drain plug on the block of the motor usually it looks square. if its not behind the blade on the under carriage, then it will be on top above the blades were the motor is visible. you may have to tip the mower on its side to completely drain all the oil. but the plug is always going to be on the motor either on the side or on the bottom. if the plug is on the bottom were the blade is remove the spark plug wire first. a mower can start if you turn the blade by hand and that would be vary bad news so always take the spark plug wire off and make sure it can not come in contact with the spark plug before going underneath the mower.

Remove spark plug and observe condition. Fouled with oil, bad motor. With plug removed pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray WD40 in spark plug hole, pull rope several times see if oil blows out. Spray a lot of starter fluid in spark plug hole, replace plug. Spray starter fluid in air cleaner area of carb, try to start. Replace spark plug, try to start. Ensure oil is full, all mowers have a low oil sensor now. 30w oil. Always use Stabile in gas.

I need a manual for the Craftsman Walk behind mower #917.388930. The main thing I need to know is when changing oil what is the capacity? SAE 30 non detergent I assume. Thank you.

No, you do not use non detergent oil. You must use only SAE high quality detergent oil with API service classification SG-SL . Use SAE 30 weight or 5W30 if you use the mower during cool conditions below freezing. I highly recommend you use Synthetic oil in this air cooled engine and change your oil once each year. The oil capacity is 20 ounces. You can see the owner's manual at this link. Just click Manual Location and put in the captcha and click submit. I have a kawasaki 13.5 hp engine on my walk behind toro lawn mower. Every time I shut it off it backfires only once before stopping. what could be causing this ? Thanks, Joe

1. Make sure that the engine is at the lowest idle before shutting it off.
2. If that doesn't help, try lowering the idle to minimum using the adjustment screw and then follow instruction 1. (above).

Remove the rope case and see if it is the mower -also - remove the spark plug and try it - also - - after removing the spark plug - also -try spinning the blade. If you remove the top you will see the problem sooner.

Toro walk behind model 20025 Gas running through the carburetor

Carb. float must be stuck open. First if you have no fuel in the tank it must all be in the crankcase.Drain the oil and refill and also check the carb as the float has to be sticking open. Hope this will help you. Donnyb60

Toro 20073 self propeled, walk behind mower-how to replace belt ?

Wait until the mower cools off

1. Remove the drive belt cover from the top of the mower
2. Tip the mower up, being careful to not go too far or the oil and fuels may spill out
3. Remove the mower blade - as I recall the bolt is 5/8" (could be 9/16") You will have to hold the blade from turning (if you have impact tools, this will be much easier)
4. Remove the blade
5. Pull the pulley out or off and remove the belt - be careful to not lose the crankshaft "woodruff" key - it's the little piece of half/moon shaped metal that keeps the pulley from spinning on the crankshaft.
6. Reverse the steps to reinstall

You MUST make sure the blade is tight when you reinstall it. Also, the blade usually fits over a couple of pins - make sure they are lined up properly and the blade is installed right-side up.
