Question about NetGear WNDR3300 - RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router

1 Answer

Applying QoS to WNDR3300

I have a WNDR3300 netgear wireless router. I recently added a Netgear WNHDE111 wiless bridge to connect a work IP/ VPN phone (Avaya)
I am trying to use the QoS rules in the router to give this device the highest priorty. Right now the MAC address shows normal priorty. Please note the MAC address also shows 2 times in the routers list. I attribute that to the fact that both the wireless bridge and the IP phone are connecting to the router through the bridge....

When I follow the Netgear instructions to edit the priorty on the MAC address I recieve the following error:
"QoS policy for Pri_MAC_E5E465 already exist."

Any ideas how i apply QoS to the device?
My wife's downloads (required for her work) are killing my call quality

Thanks a ton

It is connected remotely and it is the Bridge's MAC that is showing twice

MFurrer, good comments all all valid. Let me address
    1. It is a VPN phone with a VPN load connected to CM 5.2
    2. i do not expect QoS over the VPN connection.

The issue is my wife has to download large graphic files and at that eat the bandwidth on my connection to the internet.

My goal is to ensure there is QoS at the edge coming in and going out at the router. it looks like this router can handle that

Once again I don't expect QoS in the PSTN cloud, just at the edge.

    Two questions:

Is the Bridge connected to the router via cable?
Which MAC address is showing twice? The phone's or the bridge's address?

You may stop what you are doing right now. Nothing you do will work regarding QOS and your Avaya IP phone?

Is this a hardware VPN, or a VPN remote phone? (vpn client on the phone)

Depending on what system you are connected to, an IP Office or a communication manager, there might be settings to do, but none of them are qos.

QOS is inserted on the LAN, once the packets leave the LAN and hit the open internet, there is no QOS.

You might be able to change the compression algorithm the phone is using, which might help.

I dont think it will matter, because the size of the packet trying to get out the WAN connection doesnt have the bandwidth.

See what compression the IP phone is on. If it isnt on G.729a, try that, that might help a little.

Hi there,

If this is the case, the setup wizard detected an IP conflict between the router and the modem. It means that the modems IP address is in the same range as you router so it has to be changed. If the IP address of your router was changed to 10.0.0.1 , you should be able to connect to the internet. Try accessing the routers setup page by opening a browser and type 10.0.0.1 at the address bar. It will ask you for a username or password. Type admin for the username and password for password (this is the default settings). If it does not work try to remember if you already have changed the username or password. Once you are in, enable the mac clone option. Check if it works.
