Question about Ecoquest Fresh Air Air Purifier

RCI Cell Might not be the rci cell, it may need servicing...I installed new rci cell and nothing after speaking with c.s. it is to do with the brain and needs to have the master card replaced, cost about $200.00. Do you also have an issue with the 'perform cleaning' reset button? If so it is with the master bus card....

My Ecoquest Fresh Air purifier display reads: NEEDS RCI CELL. I have ordered one online, is it safe to run the unit until I receive and replace the rci? I can already tell a difference in allergy symptoms...


By all means run the unit while you wait for the new RCI cell. The purifier will be less effective in killing germs while the RCI cell is out. It will still work to reduce the allergens in the air. Hope this helps you.

What is a RCI or RCT cell?


The RCI cell is the "honeycomb" with the blue UV light. This is the normal purifier in the machine. It needs to be replaced about every 3 years, as the UV loses its power, even though it may still be lighting up. Call the company (now called Vollara) at 800-989-2299 and give 16618 as the dealer referral number if you need a replacement and/or an owners manual. I HAVE THE FRESH AIRE MODEL JUST REPLACED rci CELL CLEANED FILTER AND CLEANED THE OZONE PLATE. THE FAN KEEPS TURNING ON AND OFF?? STARTS RIGHT BACK UP ON ITS OWN AND THROWS NO EROR MESSAGES??


The fan may be "surging" because something was not replaced securely after the RCI cell replacement.
1) First check the plug, making sure it is inserted FIRMLY into the back of the machine. Also check the outlet, making sure the plug is inserted firmly and the plug is not one that also has a major power-using appliance like a refrigerator or furnace drawing from it.
If this does not solve the problem, use the owner's manual or one that you can access via www,vollara.com , unplug and disassemble the machine and check all connections.
2) Make sure the plate (4" square white object with mesh center) is inserted correctly into the guides, both top and bottom, and is not inserted forcefully too far. It should just seat firmly. Make sure the metal contact "fingers" press firmly on the plate. (Tweak them to achieve good contact.)
If the plate was inserted incorrectly, correcting this should solve the problem. If there was no problem with the plate, or if this does not solve the problem, remove it and...
3) Make sure that the RCI cell is inserted correctly, turning the cell (like a fluorescent light bulb) until both ends are seated firmly.
Reassemble the machine. Also visually inspect all connecting wires to make sure none are loose, corroded, missing, broken, etc.
4) If everything is assembled correctly, the problem should be resolved.
If all of these troubleshooting steps fail, you'll need to contact Vollara (new name for EcoQuest) Customer service at 800-989-2299. Use #16618 for the referral number if you are no longer in contact with the authorized distributor who sold you the machine.

Order New RCI cell Put it in it come and goes


The reason for flashing or surging or a change of settings is usually a loose component.

1. Make sure all components are inserted firmly and correctly. The RCI cell (honeycomb/UV light) must be seated in both ends and turned firmly, like installing a fluorescent light bulb.

2. The 4" white ceramic/screen plate must be inserted into the tracks, top and bottom. The contact fingers must be pressing firmly on the screen part of the plate.

3. The cord must be inserted firmly into the socket in the back of the machine.

If this does not solve the problem, then the computerized system may be malfunctioning. This is something the company will need to address. Call Vollara (new name for EcoQuest) 800-989-2299 and ask for repairs. They

What is the problem when it needs cleaning pretty often?


If you are referring to the "Perform Cleaning" message on the machine. There is nothing wrong with your machine. It is a feature of the machine to display this message after 30 days of continous use. After you have cleaned the grille, purification plate and vacummed the RCI cell, press the reminder reset button to clear the "Perform Cleaning" message.

I do not know how to clean it. It is called Fresh


The Fresh Air has a reminder on the LCD to Perform Cleaning. This reminder will display if the purifier runs for 30 days. When this reminder is displayed perform the following steps to clean your purifier.

1. Cleaning the Case:

Wipe the unit with a soft cloth dampened with water. Do not use chemicals or solvents. Vacuum the front and rear grills to remove any lint buildup.

2. To clean the lint screen, RCI cell and purification plate:

3. To remove the back cover:

Remove the plug from the back of the unit. Unscrew the screw above the plug socket on the back cover. To remove the back cover, press the back sides of the back cover to unlatch and tilt the bottom of the back cover to remove.

4. To remove the rear lint screen:

Remove the two thumbscrews holding the top of the lint screen. Remove the lint screen by pulling back the top of the screen, then lift it up and out.

5. Removing the RCI cell:

Remove the RCI cell connector by pressing the connector locking tabs. Pull the connector straight out to unplug.
Remove the RCI cell by removing the two thumbscrews. Slide the RCI cell down and out of the unit.

6. Cleaning the RCI Cell:

Remove the RCI cell and carefully vacuum accumulated lint. Do not wash the RCI cell. Damage from water may result.

7. Rear lint screen cleaning:

You have two options

  1. When visibly dirty, simply remove the rear lint screen from the unit and with a duster attachment on a vacuum, remove the heavy particulate.
  2. In addition to step 1, the filter can be washed with hot water (do not use soap). Allow to dry prior to reinstalling. Replace if damaged.

8. Cleaning the Purifier Plate:

Remove the plate from the card cage by grasping the middle edge nearest to you, and slowly pull it straight out. Clean with mixture of one part water and one part ammonia. Place plate and ammonia mixture in a dish and allow it to soak for no more than 10 minutes. Remove plate and scrub with a toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and air dry for 24 hours or use a blow dryer to dry thoroughly.

After all parts have been cleaned and are thoroughly dry, reinstall components in reverse order. Turn the purifier on, and on the key pad, press the reminder Reset button to clear the Perform Cleaning message.

Replaced RCI Cell 2 times, light still doesn't come on


The U.V light is inside the RCI cell. If you replace the RCI, it has been ok. Please don't mind the screen display.

Ecoquest FreshAir - UV Flickering


UV bulbs, or rather the RCI cell needs to be changed every three years in the FreshAir, or when the "Replace RCI cell" appears, whichever comes first. The UV bulb loses its intensity over this period of time.
