Easy Note W3332 BIOS shows NEC DVD + RW ND-6650A; does not play DVD's

I reinstalled Danish WinXp Home with English Win XPPro sp2 and installed ALL the device drivers from the Packard Bell support site for this model.

After flashing the bios ver1.5 the DVD player only plays CD's. I have Win Media Player, VLC, Alcohol 120% installed to name a few DVD players and the system settings show the DVD player by the same name the BIOS shows.
Whenever a DVD is inserted into the drive bay it makes a lot of noise and the software just hangs up or shows a totally empty drive.

Do I need to edit the Registry? Or do I need to reflash the bios to the old version? How do I download the old BIOS?
I pray this site has intelligent help with psychic ability when needed.

You will have to go to the manufacturer of the dvd player itself. In your device manager, find the maker and model number of the dvd drive. Go to that company's site and look under support. There you can usually find the bios updates for every model. Flash the bios on the dvd drive. This is for the dvd drive, not the motherboard. This should fix any problem you have with the drive being recognized as what it actually is. Hopes this helps!

NEC laptop will not boot from disk or USB

just make sure ISO files or DVD you are using to boot with are actually bootable disc for OS ,as for USB booting ,you will need to turn on usb boot on the bios and software needs to be USB software.
and I am not talking about boot order that you have already selected.
check windows 8 software on anther machine and see if you can boot with it

Windows os

Its true. the Bios or HDD driver wont allow you to install Win XP on it.. This BIOS is compatible with only Win Vista. The only easy way to do it is by creating 2 partitions while installing vista. once vista is installed- install XP with Dual boot and than format the vista partition.

DVD drive write problem

First try cleaning the DVD drive lense. If it does not help then
Try system restore to restore your computer to a previous date.
For that click
Start- Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.
Click Restore my computer to an earlier time and click Next.
Select a date from the calender( select a date when it used to work) and click Next twice.
Windows will automatically restart when restoration is done

When windows starts again try to burn disc. If the same problem remains then the DVDRW drive may have some problem.

NEC ND-6500A does not play DVD+ disc

ok, so what you need to do is to check on dell support website and check if you need to install some update drivers for the dvd rom drive or if you need to check your bios. you might find some forums or bulletins having the same problems and how they resolved it.

Compaq armada 1500c

Is it the Operating System you are trying to install?
or the service pack 2 for WinXP?

If it is the OS click on the ASK ME tab under my User ID and leave your contact address, I will send out the 3CD set for compaq Armada/Presario to load the OS and Applications.

If it is the Service pack, don't install SP2, Install SP3
The release candidate 2 is in English, German, or Japanese.
Down at the bootom of this link's page, select the language you want and download approx 315mb

DVD-RW IBM A31 Thinkpad problem

I take it you are trying to "send to" files to the DVD-RW?You can't burn a DVD just with windows XP . It only supports CDRW drives.

Get commercial software like Roxio or Nero, or download a free CD burning program like this one:

Downgrading from vista to xp sp2

I know this problem, The HDD is a SATA disk, win XP setup cannot identify a SATA controller on it's own you need to load the driver (from a disk) so you may need to download it first. I think this is the correct link extract the files and burn to a CD or Floppy then run win XP setup by booting from CD you should see in the begining of win XP setup from CD it prompt you to press (I think) F2 to add RAID or SCSI Controllers, (this prompt is at the bottom of the screen) Then follow the propmts to load from the disk you made earlier. you should be able to select the controller from a list. (short list) you should then be able to continue and hopefully Win XP setup should now be able to see your HDD and give you choices about which partition (as per normal) you want to remove all partitions before installing winXP (you can then make whatever partitions you wish) Hope this helps
