Why is my Fisher and Paykel dryer making a clunking sound as it spins?

UNPLUG YOUR MACHINE FROM YOUR ELECTRICAL SOCKET AND OPEN THE DOOR , PUT A TOWEL DOWN AT THE FRONT OF THE MACHINE,GET DOWN ON YOUR KNEES AND GRIP ONE HAND AT THE TOP OF THE INTERNAL BARREL AND GRIP THE INTERNAL BARREL AT THE BOTTOM TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY 'PLAY' IN THE BARREL BEARINGS, REPEAT THE SAME ON EACH SIDE OF THE BARREL, IF THERE IS SIGNIFICANT MOVEMENT IT COULD MEAN THE BEARINGS ARE LOOSE. IF THERE IS NO 'PLAY' IN THE BEARINGS, REMOVE THE COVER PANEL ON THE LOWER FRONT PART OF THE WASHING MACHINE AND PUSH THE LID INWARDS AND UNSCREW THE LID ANTICLOCKWISE TO THE PUMP DRAIN. A LITTLE WATER MAY TRICKLE OUT BUT THIS IS NORMAL , BUT ALSO YOU MAY FIND SMALL ITEMS LIKE PAPER CLIPS, SMALL COINS OR BUTTONS ONE OF WHICH WILL TURN OUT TO BE THE CULPRIT WHICH HAS CAUSED THE DRUM TO 'CLUNK' WHILSTI N MOTION. 99% IT NORMALLY IS EITHER THE BEARINGS OR ONE OF THE OTHER ITEMS AS MENTIONED.GOOD LUCK!

Water sound

Yes, it is normal. The top ring was filled with water to act as a counter weight when it is going to stop from fast spinning.

Wm2455hw will not spin

Make sure door mechanism is working at fine. So next is to check whether the motor tumbles both directions.
The spin bearing might be a problem, but normally you'd hear a problem here first. Have you heard any freight trains passing through the house in the spin cycle?
One thing to check for this problem is the spin speed switch. If the spin speed switch is bad then the control won't know how fast to spin, and so it will just not spin at all.
The drain pump must be draining all the water out. If the water doesn't drain out then the pressure switch won't read empty and that might prevent a spin cycle.
I hope this helps.
Please reply with additional details for further assistance.

I had put a childs tennis shoe in dryer and it had gotten stuck between the door and one of the ridges inside the dryer. THe dryer still sounded like it was on but was not spinning. I removed the shoes but...

This sounds like you broke the belt. The blower wheel can still run.

Here is a video on replacing a dryer belt. It may be a different model but the process will be the same. You can also enter in your model # for diagrams and illustrations. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

The drum "clunks" when it is distributing the load before it goes into a spin - but not "clunking" when its spinning. The machine is one week old.

The noise you refer to is the washer trying ti distribute the load evenly, before going into fast spin., itn is called distrubution spin for that purpose.
It is more likely to occur if you only have a couple of articles in, or something bulky and heavy.
It is not normally somethimg to worry about, as the washer will not do it's final spin, if the load is not distributed properly.
Hope this helps with your query.

I have a clunking noise when the drying cycle is running

I found a screw stuck between the dryer barrel where it spins around. I jiggeled the barrel enough so the screw fell out and problem solved.

GE Prodigy Washing machine making clunking noise

One common problem area is the clutch assembly. The clutch is built on top of the motor, the motor drives the clutch and the clutch assembly drives the rest of the washer. The clutch gets very noisy when parts inside are worn out. The shoes lining that drives the inner drum of the clutch wear off and you will get a metal on metal sound. Clutches often can be rebuilt, but sometimes they are too worn and replacing the whole clutch is the best repair. Please use this link here for clutch replace and repair info. The belt and pump may be the next items to check for noises. How to access the washer. Clutch repair help.

Maytag model LA- 510 washer. Not spinning fast enough, Clothes come out too wet and water sometimes left in bottom of drum. Belts were changed. No help. Also, machine makes a large ''clunk'' sound at end...

the cluncking sound is not a brake system since there are no brakes, but the stabilizer of the drum. as when it stops turning the whole weight of the drum 'hangs' on the stabilizers. That might also be the problem with not spinning fast enough, although I think that its not spinning fast enough because there's too much water inside. I would check the drain hose and drain filter, either one of these two are clogged up, and therefor not letting the water out.
hope you'll find the problem soon.
friendly greetings............Gilbert.
