My brother was on his computer, when he accidentally pressed the moon-hibernation key and the computer screen went black and stopped working, he has tried to shut it down and press other keys to get it to work but nothing is happening. Can anybody help please?

You didn't mention the operating system. I have trouble with hibernation in Vista, so I set this option to Never. Also, unless you went in and changed your options for the Sleep button, I think it defaults to Sleep (or Standby), not Hibernate. But if it truly went into Hibernate, if you press the power button once, it should come back (it may take several minutes since Hibernate saves the state of your computer then shuts down completely). If you have already done this and it didn't work, hold down the power button for several seconds until the system totally shuts down. You may lose some things that were unsaved, but you should be able to power up from that. Without more information, I'm not sure what else to suggest.

Unplug the computer for a minute and plug it back in. It should restart normally.

Usually you restart just by tapping a key in sleep or hitting the power in hibernate.

There is a long silver button with a black moon on the upper left of my keyboard. When I accidentally hit it, the screen goes black. What is it.....and how do you get your screen back?

Hi,
Depending on how your keyboard is configured, that key is set to do one of two things:
  1. Puts your computer to sleep. (A low power state where almost everything is shut off, including the monitor). You can resume from sleep by hitting any key on the keyboard, hitting the power button on your computer, or clicking the mouse.
  2. Puts your computer into hibernation. (An even lower power state where everything is actually shut off, but a copy of everything open is saved to the hard drive to be opened during start up. It basically allows you to turn off the computer, but be able to turn it back on with program exactly how you left it). You can resume from hibernation only by hitting the power button on your computer.
Hope this helps. If it does, please accept and rate the solution! You can leave a testimonial or contact me with any more questions you may have. Thanks for using FixYa!

Press the ON/OFF button, and hold it down until the computer shuts itself off.
Release the button.
Press the button, to restart the computer -- it should restart "normally".

Button function help

The quarter moon shaped icon is a sleep button. It will force your system to a sleep/hibernate mode. This may not cause a loss of interenet connection when the system is restarted. Try connecting to the internet again
