Reformat my PC (hard disk)

I bought a P4 desktop computer with a 80gb harddisk and windowsXP preinstalled. The hd is partitioned to 2 sections 40gb on the C drive and 40gb on the D drive. Currently the WindowsXp is installed on the C drive. The D drive is free. The person who formatted the OS in the hd must have put himself as the Administrator of the PC and I as the user. Each time I tried to delete or alter something in the program, I was denied with a pop up saying I am not the Administrator or have no permission from the Administrator. Today I tried reformating the who hd with a Windows XP CD, I was also denied access to it. How can I go about deleting the whole hd and reformat the PC with my own WIndows XP cd. Any help or suggestion is most welcome. Jonhank

Your solution did not solve the problem.
Each try comes with a pop-up window saying: "The following error occurred while attempting to save properties for user administrator:- The workstation service has not been started"

Sorry to say your solution too did not work with the following pop-up message: "You do not have enough privileges to install Acronis Drive Cleanser. Please make sure you have administrator rights in this computer"

Yours too did not solve my problem as the pop-up window came with this message: "The following error occurred attempting to save properties for user administrator:- The workstation service has not been started"

Don't Format your PC, Lonhank. I Guess the person who installed your OS, was wise enough to leave the admin account password-free. To have a try just boot your PC, in the safe mode (Pressing F8 key at boot).
Then enter the username: Administrator Password: (Empty, I mean leave blank)
If you are able to enter the account, Just change the password and you can also make a new admin or anything you can.
If you got anymore queries, don't hesitate to reply.
If I was helpful, kindly do Rate! Regards.

Ok Time to learn some Hack!.

I'v tried this many times, and I'll rate this to 100% working.

All you need is the Hiren's Boot disk (Tons of softwares in it, Including the Password Recovery tools).

You can download it here (For free) and can have all the info here.

After getting this in your PC all you need is to burn it on a CD/DVD or make a bootable USB(data traveller) of this Hiren's Boot disk.

If this is not comfortable, you can also download a Stand Alone Application (which i use usually) Here.

Just Burn it on a bootable, Or in a USB, Boot it, you will be shown all the users, select the administrator, and the Password will be cleared. (No Password).

Kinda, If you'll follow the step I'v told you, You will feel Happy. :-)

    Regards.

Ask your pals if they have a copy of Acronis Disk Manager or Google it on the Net

It allows you to use the Acronis CD as a boot disk and will wipe the drive clean for you

That is a sign, that your hard drive is dying.
please back up the data you find important ASAP.
you can also try freezing your harddrive for a day and then installing it back in your computer to access the data on other partitions if you can view them.
otherwise you will need to send the hard drive to a professional data recovery.

Did not see second sata harddisk

To know if your Hardisk is detected follow this steps:

In Windows XP

1. Open Control Panel
2. Go to Administrative Tools
3. Open Computer Management
4. Double Click Storage
5. Open Disk Management

All the list of Hardisk is here, your hardisk is not formatted that's why, so you have to proceed to format just right click that unformatted hardisk and choose format, specify the label for your hardisk or simply leave it blank.

Im trying to upgrade my hard drive from a 40g to a 160 but it only shows up as 40gb

You probably used software to "clone" the "old" disk-drive to the "new" disk-drive. So, the "new" drive is an *EXACT* image of the 40GB drive.

Click Start
Point to My Computer
Click with the SECOND (usually the RIGHT) mouse-button.
Click Manage
Double-click Storage
Double-click Disk Management (local)
You'll see that the "last" 120GB on the new disk are "unallocated".

Use that "disk-cloning" software to "resize" the 40GB partition on the new disk-drive, to integrate that "unallocated" space into the current partition.

Or, right-mouse click on that "unallocated" space, and create a partition within that space, and to "format" that space, and to assign a drive-letter (E: ? F: ?) to that 120GB of disk-space.

then connect it to cpu with SATA or IDE .
Then winxp find that all partition then take backup.

AND IFyou haven't other computer you need winxp bootable disk.
Boot your computer with winxp disk then follow the procedurer then you see on screen

Have maxtor 40gb hd want to add 2nd WD hd in DEll dim8200

(if both drives on the same cable):
Your boot drive goes at the end of the primary data cable.
Your second drive goes on the middle connection of the same cable.
The red stripe on the data cable needs to be closest to the power connection (red stripe to pin 1).
The jumper on the boot drive set to master.
The jumper on the second drive set to slave.
Look in the BIOS to make sure it sees both harddrives.
Boot the system.. it will need to be partitioned and formatted if not already..
Regards..

MY msi 7082 cant read HDD 40GB and above whY>?

Your board specifications are here - http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=661FM3-L&class=mb

This sounds like a memory timing issue based on the caution from the MSI page. There is no reason the board itself should have a problem with that size hard drive. Have you reset the bios to factory default and tried the various compatibility settings available in the bios?

IBM Netvista 6059 - Can't upgrade to windows XP

Right well XP Pro really MUST be formatted with NTFS only... I suggest you get a third party partitioning program like Partition magic and completely remove the partition & redo it all again & this time Format NTFS. Or if ya have a WIN98 boot disk, and ya can use FDISK, Delete ALL partitions, and remake them again, using all the disk space, then format as NTFS, then proceed as below Then using your windows XP PRO setup Disk, start the install ...then when asked about where you want the install located, select C & REFORMAT it AGAIN with the windows setup using again NTFS file system... this should finish & then the Install should "see" your entire hard drive and format it accordingly and then when finished you can proceede to install XP.
