Question about Toshiba Satellite M50 Notebook

1 Answer

My Toshiba Satellite M50 laptop wont turn on.. the battery has lost it's charge, and the AC adapter no longer seems to provide any juice. Is this likely a problem with the adapter, or the laptop itself? I've read that the Toshiba Satellite line has problems with power supply, and that this is a fairly common issue on older models. (mine is now about 3.5 years old). If it is a computer problem (and not an adapter problem), is it worth spending the money to have it repaired?

Did it run out of power when you were using it, or did you go to use it one day and it wouldn't turn on? because I've know people spill stuff on the friends/family laptop and not tell them about it.

It's either the adapter connection or the MOBO itself.
Anyhow try removing the battery and adapter press and hold the power button for 10 to 20 sec plug the adapter with out the battery and restart. Hope this works if not check the MOBO for jack problem

Is the AC Power adapter the original adapter of the laptop? If it is, try to drain the battery and charge it for 8-12 hours without using or opening the laptop just charge it. After charging, remove the power adapter as you open your laptop. Make this way a habbit of using and charging your laptop to make the charging and battery life last long.

Toshiba Laptop not charging

So confusing...Laptop AC Adapter nowadays has AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE, meaning it doesn't matter if it is 110v or 220v. Maybe you've got a FAULTY BATTERY. Remove the battery and plug in your AC Adapter to outlet and to your laptop and try to power-on.

It sounds like the power supply inside has gone bad. If its not under warranty it will most likely cost more to fix than its worth.

Try running it without the battery and just off the AC power....if that does the same..I'd say start looking for a new one.

My Toshiba Satellite A30 laptop keeps switching off when charging. It works fine when on the battery but seems to overheat when I use it whilst charging the battery. Can you help ?

I would suggest that you try it with another AC adapter first, because it seems the adapter is faulty and therefore supplying more current into the laptop than necessary.
If it works perfectly with another AC Adapter, then you might just have to change your AC Adapter.
Hope it helps.
Goodluck!

Try to shutdown, remove battery, remove AC plug, Press and Hold Power button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC adapter and test.
do you hear windows booting ( the startup sound) after a few minutes, if so there may be a monitor hardware problem

Toshiba satelite A100 rejects AC... often.

Just to humor me, are you using any peripherals with your laptop when this happens, such as a wireless mouse, USB connections such as digital cameras? Try to take these away when recharging.

There seems to be 2 issues here.
1) Recharing batteries: To prepare the batteries for long-term use (I do not know how long you've had the batteries...try draining the batteries (both of them), and then recharging it to full 2x before using them without the AC Adapter. This should clear the problem.

2) AC Adapter only works every other day: When you swapped the power pack, was it with a new AC adapter, or another used one? Also, have you tried using a different outlet than the one you normally use? Let me know how this turns out.
