SOURCE: Fridge freezer over heating and is not cooling fridge section
It is normal for the middle strip to be hot. Did you check the temp setting in the fridge section?
Also - you might check for blockage in the bottom. Excessive dirt/dog hair can block the air flow.
Good luck

Problem seems to be solved. I unplugged it for a short time and plugged it back in. I'm guessing it needed to be re-set.

If the freezer is cold then it is having trouble circulating air, first make sure the evaporator fan in the freezer is on. If it is not check for power, if you have power replace the fan. If not it is probably the defrost thermostat. If the fan is on then more than likely your evaporator coil is frozen over. The fridge goes through a defrost cycle every 8-12 hours depending on the model. If this is the case then get a hair dryer and melt all of the ice, this will keep everything working until you can get it fixed. It is either the defrost thermostat, the defrost timer, or the defrost heater. Check the heater for continuity, if that is good, check the defrost timer which should be located near the heater for continuity, if that is good replace the defrost timer. Do not put the freezer on the coldest setting. The freezer temp is really an air balance, and when you put it on the coldest setting it shuts off all airflow to the fridge.

when you open the freezer door you should hear a fan running, that's what cools your refrigerator section. If you don't hear that fan, that may be the problem. Also if there is frost on the back panel of the freezer that also may indicate a defrost problem, which could cause the same problems
