Generally, printers have a tool box in all programs under your printers folder. You can run maintenance from there. You can clean the printer with a cloth and some alcohol. Not know what printer you have, I cannot give you specific instructions.

BTW what printer do you have?

Brother MFC-440CN - print quality terrible, almost non-existent in spite of many cleaning operations.

It sounds like the printhead needs to be replaced. Brother may cover the cost of repair if you call them at 877-276-8437 and tell them the prints are "missing black ink". Very common problem that a new printhead should fix.

Replaced empty black ink cartridge, wont print black ink even after cleaning and aligning the printheads

The head of your printer cartrige (black) are not detected by the printer because it was damage and need to be replace. So that no more black ink could print anyway.

Printing quality is terrible and it never is what I see in the print preview

There are a couple of things that could cause this. One is not printing at a high enough setting, the paper not being compatible or dirty print heads.

Check your print setting for resolution and sharpness.

Paper even photo paper can cause problems. Sometimes the paper can't absorb the ink due to the type of paper (incompatible brand) or even too humid.

Usually this is just caused by dirty print heads. If you run it through several print cycles you should see an improvement. One or two cleanings may not do enough to even notice. You may need to do a dozen or more before it really cleans things.

Try cleaning the black printer heads several times in a row, at least 5 times then print a black document with best quality setting.
Press the ink button, then down to select select cleaning and then press menu/set and menu/set again to select black.

Print quality is terrible

Your printhead is in need of a cleaning cycle...

The black part of the K/Y printhead is pigmented and they tend to clog much quicker than the other dyebase colours. As a result you should run a cleaning cycle from the control panel

  • Setup button
  • Tools option (6)
  • Clean Printhead (option 3)
That will then run a printhead cleaning routine which hopefully will resolve the issue.

Unfortunately as I said the K/Y printheads are poorly built and you may need to replace it if, after 3 cleaning routines the output doesn't improve.

One solution is to switch to a Non-HP black cartridge that uses dyebase ink instead of HP's pigment but that's only if you get this more than once.

Hope that helps.

My printer has suddenly started printing terrible quality photos

It's possible that your cartridges are leaking into the printhead and cross polluting the other colours or there is a problem with the parking pad where the printhead "rests" when not in use.

I'd recommend removing your cartridges and checking for any ink leaks on these and/or puddles of ink in the printhead.

Then check the parking pad for any puddling of ink...

Given that you have a CX6600, which is now quite an old model, you may have a clogged waste ink tube and this is causing cleaning cycles to expiate ink into the parking pad but not actually draw it away, thus soiling the underside of the printhead.

Resolving this is not easy but involves a suitable inkjet cleaning solution (ammoniated windex is recommended in the USA) and leaving this in the parking pad to work at any clogging. It's likely to take a few days and repeated application of cleaning fluid but if a clogged waste pump is the issue this should eventually clear it.

One other possible cause is a dead pump.. If that's the case, it's time for a new printer as it's just not worth fixing.

Hope that gives some ideas.

Print quality

Hi,

Try to clean your printer. There could be two reasons:

1. Your printer colored ink is near empty. IT needs to be replaced or get refill.
2. Your ink cartridge printer is dirty. It needs deep cleaning. Just click on the properties of your printer then go to services. Allign or clean your printer.

Thanks. Please rate this solution so that I can give you more solutions to specifically identify your problem.
