Can I change my number or get another number on a safelink phone

The service provider is Verizon. It is a Government scheme, their rules.

Safelink is the wireless counterpart to Lifeline , a US govt. program designed to help poverty level Americans have access to essential telecommunications services like 911 access.

Lifeline is a landline program. Safelink is the wireless alternative provided chiefly by Tracfone.

You have to apply and qualify. Each household is given one phone per household. They are also provided with a number of minutes which varies from area to area but is usually 68.

You can buy regular Tracfone minutes to top up Safelink phones if you run out of minutes.

Tracfone also owns Net10 and Straight Talk wireless. Those two divisions do not participate in Safelink.

There are ways of making Safelink minutes go further with things like Tracfone Double Minutes for Life status for phones, bonus promo codes and more.

Safelink is not available in every state. However, other companies also participate in low income wireless aid programs including Virgin Mobile and Sprint. In some areas where there is no Safelink, local wireless companies may take up the slack.
