I have the same issue with my Samsung fridge. Water tastes fine, but the ice has a bitter chemical taste - as if there was dishwasher detergent residue in the cup. All the water lines are plastic, I've changed the filter three times in the last four months, I've cleaned out the ice maker and the fridge and even replaced the bin and the ice maker itself and still have nasty ice. We still use the water from the fridge door dispenser but we buy ice. Makes me wonder why we got such an expensive refrigerator!
If unit has a water dispenser, how does water taste? I've run across bell peppers that will emit a bad smell. Keep in mind 95% of all refrigerators circulate air from freezer to refrigerator side and then back. It continues to circulate air so bad produce from refrigerator side will get into freezer side and ice will absorb smell. First, dump all ice. Then line shelves in refrigerator side with newspaper, that absorb smells. You can even try kitty litter in small cups in refrigerator side. Bell peppers gives off that metallic smell and can take some time to get out of unit. Highly unlikely a motor is bad and you've already changed outside water line.
No Its not normal, first of all did you flush the entire line and replace the filter at the same time? All of this is a factor. A stainless steel line is nothing more than a rubber hose wrapped in a steel mess, it very easy to move around and install. I think allow time for the water to settle and flush out the entire water system with a filter change should fix this issue.
i found that the previous homowners hooked the icemaker to soft water instead of hard water. Once I changed it to hard water, both ice cubes and water tasted fine.
The ice maker doesn't have a filter , the problem could be the ice maker itself that the tray ,which is made out of aluminum is losing particles.Look at the conditions of the ice maker tray ,if you see like white spots replace the ice maker.
Ice storage bin needs to be emptied and washed.Unsealed packages in the refrigerator and/or freezer compartments may be transmitting odors/tastes to the ice cubes. Interior of the refrigerator may need cleaning. Water chemicals. Installing an in-line filter can help with many odor/taste complaints. An open box of baking soda in the refrigerator section can help with preventing the transmitting of food odors. This is a common in-line water filter, they are fairly easy to install and usually come with instructions.
Even when your well or municipal water supply provides healthy, potable water to your ice maker, some impurities may remain. These can affect the smell or taste of the ice cubes, and therefore the beverages in which you serve them. A taste and odor water filter on the incoming water-supply line--such as our charcoal "Universal Replacement Water Filter"--can help a lot. Also, over time, the ice cube bin can absorb difficult-to-remove odors from the freezer. Some manufactures recommend that you replace the bin every 2 to 3 years, whenever it seems to be retaining objectionable odors and transferring them to the ice cubes.
Sometimes the smell comes from something in the freezer or even the refrigeratior and makes the ice taste funny. My suggestion is to clean out the freezer compartment of anything frozen that has been there a while and may have freezer burn. That may be the funny smell you are experiencing.
Hope this will help you.
YOU SAID, YOU HAVE KENMORE ELITE BOTTOM FREEZER WITH ICE MAKER THE ICE CUBES SMELL
HORRIBLE ALWAYS, I EVEN TOSS THEM OUT EVERY FEW DAYS, STILL SAME PROBLEM
Ice has bad odor and taste. 1• Ice has picked up odor or flavor from strong food stored in refrigerator or freezer. 2• Water running to ice maker has poor taste or odor. 3• Ice not used frequently enough. 4• Cover foods tightly. Discard stale ice. Ice maker will produce fresh supply. 5• Add filter to water supply line. Consult a water purifying company. 7• Discard stale ice.
