Brush roller berings may be faulty making the brush stick and motor shaft spins against belt causing melting. remove brush roller, clean out end berings and see if ends spin freely or if they stick. if they stick, you might need to replace brush roller.

If it is the motor it may smell electrical and the motor is likely shot. It's very possible it needs a new belt. Your model has a stretch belt and they should be replaced at least every six months (even if it's never been used) because belts need to be stretched so far to be installed they will lose elasticity and slip on the shaft which can cause the belt to melt.

I got a used filter queen majestic vacuum at a yard sale and want to fix it up and start with new filters where do i get the filters and how do i change them

Hello,

Well you bought a really great vacuum cleaner. The Filter Queen's are extremely durable and very well made vacuums. They sell brand new for over $2500, so picking one up at a yard sale was a great find by you.

There are several different filters on this model that need to be replaced. Here's a link to a 6 month supply kit that we sell, which contains all the filters needed for a 6 month period:
Filter Queen MediPure Filters 6 month supply

The only other part that you should be replaced on a regular basis is the belt (only if the vacuum has a motorized power nozzle for cleaning carpets). The belt should be changed every 6 months or so. Even if it doesn't break, these belts will stretch out and not work as well as a new belt would. Here's a link to the belt that will fit your Filter Queen Majestic:
Filter Queen Power Nozzle Belt to Fit All Majestic models using a flat belt

Here's a link to the owner’s manual for a newer Majestic model. This is the only one that is available online. Even though it's a newer model, the maintenance and care will be exactly the same for your model.

I really hope this was the information that you needed. If you have any follow up questions, please don't hesitate to ask them by using the comment box here on the Fixya repair page.

If this did help you, please be so kind and rate my repair helpful, or leave some feedback for me. This is greatly appreciated.

I cannot get the brushes to turn, now here is a dumb question does it take a belt as I am not seeing one on the brushes

Yes it does take a belt. This belt needs to be replaced every 6 to 12 months. Here is the belt you need and a manual with instructions:

The brush is not working anymore

Your drive belt is probably broken. They usually need to be changed every 6 to 12 months. If you haven't replaced the belt recently I would try that. You can get the belts you need through this link and also view the manual which has step by step instructions on how to change the belt. hope this helps!

The bar brush does not spin. I opened the vacuum head and the drive belt to the bar brush is loose. I don't see how you remove the slack from the belt.

you have to have it in the carpet setting in order to put pressure on the v-belt. there is no way to tighten up the v-belt, but i would try to replace the big flat belt. if you haven't changed this belt in over 6 months, i would change it. ( on average belts need to be changed every 6-8 months). the reason is that the belt streches over time and doesn't have enough tention to ingage the v-belt in order for the brush to work. hope this helps

I need to replace the belt on my vacuum. I lost my manual.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. In order to change your belt I would need to know the brand name and the model # in order to give you the correct information to change your belt, so a little bit more information needed as to what you have and then I can direct you in the belt change. Normally there are screws in the bottom of the vacuum and once you remove the screws or clips you can either change it from the bottom or the top cover will lift off and then you can get @ the belt from the top.The average and recommended belt change for a flat belt is every 4 to 6 months and if you have a geared belt it is once a year for the best cleaning. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Belts

It is the flat belt that gets stretched and should be replaced at least every 6 months. The V belt wears down so it won't it right in the brush roll V. Maybe the belt tensioner wheel has a problem, sometimes they get hook up and won't engage the V belt. Check the brush roll also, if where the V belt rides in is covered up with belt, replace it. There is no adjustment, doesn't need it if everything is working the way it should.

I have a Hoover self-propelled Windtunnel, purchased 6-04. It gets light use. I have replaced the v belt 3 times, once under warranty, and it must be replaced again. It appears to be in very good condition, but is stretched too big. When I purchased 2 v belts a year ago, one was already too stretched, but when my Dad took it back, the salesman put it on another model and said it was fine (Dad never mentioned this to me). Is there a way to adjust the vacuum to hold the belt tighter? Do they really just stretch out like that normally? The flat belt has never been replaced and is in great condition.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It is a good idea to change your flat belt every 4 to 6 months as a rule and the V belts @ least once a year and always use the genuine Hoover belts, there are generic or replacement belts out there but they have a tendency to stretch faster then the genuine belts. What you mentioned is not unheard of and another tip is to store any extra belts in a Ziploc bags in the refrigerator. Feel free to contact your local vac dealer if you have questions or call Hoover factory and ask for tech support. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

How do you replace the belt on the pro heat? My belt broke.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. You may check your owner’s manual to see how to replace the belt, but normally the belt is replace under the top cover by removing 2 to 4 screws and the top cover will come off to replace the belt. As far as maintenance it is a good idea to replace a flat belt every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning and if it is a v belt or geared belt then the belt change would be once a year.
