Try removing the freezer light bulb. Check the ice tray feeler arm spring is tight i.e the end of the spring should be in a small hole not loose.

I believe there are three cycles in order to make ice. There is a switch that sends a signal to the water valve for the icemaker to fill. Then once the ice is made, heater under the tray comes on and the switch to turn the auger comes on for the ice to drop out. And of course, there is a over flow bar (on out side the ice maker) that can shut the whole process off until you physically push it down or is released as the ice level goes down. If any of these process malfunctions or any of the cycle is stuck, then you will not have as much ice or will not get any ice.
You almost have to listen to each cycle when you are home and check for each cycle WATER _ FREEZING _ ICE DROPING to see if you detect anything as what could be wrong.

Freezer wont make ice cubes

This is not difficult to troubleshoot.
  • When the arm is up the ice maker is off
  • When the bucket is full the arm is up the maker is off.
  • If the ice maker has a on/off button in off the ice maker is off
  • If the ice maker internal heater fails the cubes will not release and the white plastic ejector arms will be rotated CCW and pressing against the ice in the tray, Normal position for ejector arms is vertical.
  • If water solenoid has failed or water supply not available the ice maker will cycle. The ice tray will be empty,(hard to see if ice tray is empty). Check and replace water fill solenoid.
  • If ice in tray and ejector arms vertical several possibilities.
    • Freezer not cold enough to trip thermostat in ice maker to initiate release cycle.
    • Check freezer temperature <10 Fahrenheit thermostat in ice maker failure
    • Ice maker motor failure,
    • Internal ice maker electrical connections rotary switch failure,
The best way to check the operation is to manually lock the arm up into the off retention position. Wait a minimum of one hour. Open door and release arm down. Observe the operation of the ice maker. Is after a minute or so the ejector arm does not rotate then it is likely the ice maker has failed internally. If the ejector turns and no ice than you can assume either the water supply is off external from the refrigerator or more likely the water solenoid located behind the bottom back cover has failed. It is also possible that the hose that connects the solenoid to the ice maker has frozen right where it enters the freezer just above the ice maker. You should see ice built up at the entrance where the water fills the tray if this has occurred.

Hello,

What your describing sounds to me like a classic case of the water valve sticking open, as you have stated and replacing it will resolve your problem.

Ice maker problem

something has to give when it too hard to turn. if ice cubes are ice to each other it could cause this . sometimes this is caused by water leaking from ice maker into the bucket . look for a bad water valve or a ice maker that is not lever or has bad tray . . ****

My icemaker isn't working. There's no water in the trays and it doesn't sound like it's trying. The model is tbx18ci.

Not sure what setup your ice maker has to let it know when the ice tray is full, but some ice makers have a bail that goes up with rising ice levels. When the ice bucket fills up, the ice maker shuts down.

Lifting the bail up all the way until it catches on a small ledge turns this type ice maker off. If ice is allowed to stack in the bucket too high, or is shoved back as someone scooped out ice, the bail may inadvertently have been pushed onto the ledge.

Bottom line; check whatever method your ice maker uses to turn off ice production when the bucket is full to see if it is in the OFF position.

ICE MAKER WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF

On the ice makers on refridgerators unless the ice in the bucket is high enough to raise the arm on the icemaker it will not shut off. Most people lift the arm up when they see the bucket full. I have the side by side Whirlpool model and on mine if I don't raise the arm the ice will fall out the bucket before it will raise the arm high enough.

GE Model TFX20JRBAWW auger freezes up and no ice will dispense ice is accumulating at base of auger. the bottom of the bucket is solid ice every day.

there is a anti-freeze kit available. u will have to completely dry the motor first. (if you hold it long enough the heat will build up in the motor and thaw itself)but will freeze right back.

Icemaker not producing ice

Most automatic ice makers have a lever (looks like a piece of wire) that is prevented from being in the down position when the bin is full. This stops the ice maker from producing ice when not needed. The lever can also be lifted manually to a locked up position which turns the ice maker off as well. If the lever is in the up position, simply press down on it, it should release and return to the down position. Once down, the ice maker will begin producing ice again (the unit will have to complete its cycle before you see any ice, normally a couple hours or less). Hope this helps.

Please take the time to give this solution a fix ya rating.

Amana SXD27Q2E side by side fridge....icemaker stopped making ice a couple of days ago. Seems that there is ice in the tray, but maybe it is not freezing hard enough for the ejector blades to push it out?...

There is ice blocking the assy. You need to get in there and clean it out. You WILL find a piece of ice that is blocking the assembly from turning. Happens more often than you think. Be careful when you get the piece out the blades will revolve forcefully once unhindered.
