Question about Mitsubishi MSH09TW Air Conditioner

1 Answer

There was a lightning strike last night, outside near my AC Condensor Unit. The system is not functioning at this time...confirmed that there is power from the house power panel. There is a disconnect on the house near the Condensor Unit, non fused. Any ideas? I assume that I need to go find the AC controller up in the attic near the fan units. What do you think, a blown fuse or control board?

SPLIT AC CONDENSER TRIPS AFTER 1 OR 2 MINS, ONLY DURING THE DAY TIME

The condensor is not cooling fast enough. Try cleaning the condensor coil. Also check that the fan goes on. At night the outside temperature is cooler and does not need much work to cool down the condensor.

Bosch dishwasher does not turn on following a lightning strike near the house last night

Check your circuit breaker first. If ok suspect control board got fried. If you take it out you may see a burnt spot on it.

We had a tree struck by lightning last night. Now, our truck and sports car, parked 10 feet away, are both showing problems with charging system, (truck) and ABS, tracking system, and active handling...

Yes. Although the tires are suppose to insulate, there is enough humidity to allow the air to carry a charge. The ECM for example, can be interfered with by Radio frequencies. A lightning strike produces all kinds of freqencies beyond visible light.

You should document the tree strike and park your vehicles back into their spots if you do not already have photos of the tree damage showing the vehicles in the foreground or background.

This is comprehensive coverage with hidden damage discovered within a recent timeframe of the original event.

My Window unit cools real well in the morning. The air flow from the ac is 50 degrees, then by noon the temperature is 80 degrees and then it won't cool again. I am trying to cool an 8 x 35 ft....

When was the last time you cleaned the evaportor coil and condensor coil???? When its cool outside the condensor if its plugged with dirty can mantain the right condensor Head Pressure by useing the cool outside air when it has to run with 80 to 100 degree air it can't get the head pressure with in range to cool the freon. I would clean the condensor coil.......

Rv ac throws the breaker when outside temp gets high, unit works fine at night when outside temp cools down

Clean evap and cond coils
Place hand on a/c if too hot during the day but cool at night
then freon is being restricted in the condensor
Cleaning coils may help days
Put a trickle of water on the condensor during the day for a test.

We had a lightning storm and now the ac wont work

Depending on where you live, there are electrical codes that require a 'disconnect' near the outside unit.. This is to be removed prior to servicing that unit and prevent the service person from getting injured if someone inadvertantly turned it on The humming sound you may be hearing may be the fan motor insise that unit, It is possible that the lightning strike generated a surge that damaged that fan motor winding.. With the protective screen removed and that unit disconnected from power.. try spinning the fan by hand to make sure it is free to turn, then reassemble everything and see if will start up. If it is a 220VAC system then you could also be missing one phase of power..You might want to contract an electrician for that aspect of troubleshooting. Be careful and goodluck..

Air conditioning

no,
most thermostat wiring is 4 core, because installers use phone cable -its cheap- but there is no accepted color code, and some systems use 2, or 3, or 4 of the wires.
there should be a standard.
terminals on thermostats and furnace, aircons are labelled, but the labelling is often contradictory. some thermostats have function to control the fan separately, some for the same aircon dont.
the manufacturers web site for your aircon,
should give a detailed explanation in install instructions which terminals are open on rise close on rise, heat/cool and how they are connected
the new thermostat should detail which of its terminals match those of the aircon.
test the cable before installing anything at the aircon or thermostat, a lightning strike can have shorted things normally impossible, and the lowV thermostat line could be at lineV and trash anything or anyone connected to it,
  • Lightning strikes are very unforgiving, please be careful, even if the lightning touched down yards away the voltage at large distances from the strike can be 10KV
  • paranoia impels me to recommend an electrician with test equipment for the lines, outside unit, cables and inside units, its better to check and be wrong, than not check and be wrong.

Lightning struck outside our house last night. Air does not work. Unit outside does but the thermostat smelled like the wires were melting. Husband got a new thermostat but we can't get the unit to come...

lightning is in KVolt range, the exterior unit is most likely damaged at the low voltage cables to the thermostat, melted out, should get a sparky in to trace the lowV lines, and check out the unit, lightning is not forgiving
