hot water elements for water systems cost around $50.00AUD and probably 1 hour labour fee by an accredited plumber with a limited electrical licence
There will be a mess as the removal of the element will allow the full tank of water to drain out
SOURCE: The water is not getting hot anymore. How can I fix this problem?
I'm not sure what exactly you're talking about here, but if it's a hot water heater, the most common problem is that one or more (most have two) of your heating elements have burned out. You'll need to get new elements for one or both of them and install them. CAUTION: Turn off the power on whatever circuit handles the water heater, get yourself a water heater element wrench (nothing else will do the job), cut the water supply to your home - all of it! Remove the defunct element(s), replace it or them, turn the water supply back on and listen - put your ear up against the tank and see if you can hear a sizzling sound. After about an hour you should have hot water again.
