Our very old Lexmark All in One Scanner is screeching as if it needs lubrication. She's on her last leg, so I am willing to risk it. Where do I put the lubricant?

Hi Tilda Wald, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?

Not sure on your scanner but I would think if the scan head moves along two metal rods I would get machine oil (usually used in sewing machines) put a few drops on a tissue and then rub tissue along the metal rods. And then let us know if you indeed have rods like I describe and if it helps with the screeching.

Hey Brett, I did one rod with the machine oil. Everything else seems to be tucked behind plastic. I will look for the other rod, and keep searching for screws to get the case off. Thanks to everyone for their time.

WD-40 works the best, as most parts would not be damaged by it. Try to figure out by looking at it when it is printing what parts are rotating (this may or may not require some disassembly). If you decide to spray something that rotates (like the hubs of the little rubber wheels that move the paper), be careful to use it sparingly and don't spray it all over everything. A spray of 1/100 of a second or less will usually do the job. Good luck.

Testimonial: "Thanks! Getting the case off in order to apply lubricant is proving to be the biggest challenge."

SOURCE: With what can I lubricate the legs onmy aluminum Mafrotto tripod?

Dear Winnieg,
I would avoid using a lubricant on your tripod legs, because you run the risk of the legs not tightening down anymore. I would try cleaning the tripod thoroughly first, because most of the time this is caused by dirt. If that dosen't work I would try rubbing on a small amount of candle wax onto the legs, and then wipe the legs down with a clothe.

Sincerely,
Allan

SOURCE: 2000 Silverado L/T Z71 4X4 Lubrication Diagram

Lube points should be: All moving joints in suspension. Ball joints, idler arm, tie rod ends etc. On 4X4's, all universal joints on drive axles (excluding C/V joints... just inspect boots) All slip-joints and "u" joints on driveshafts. Many of these items may not have zirk fittings on them from the factory. If the component has a plug installed, it should be removed & replaced with a fitting. If there is no place for a fitting, when the item wears out, the replacement will have a fitting.

SOURCE: kitchenaid K5-A mixer ''growling''

Hi . Chevron FM ALC EP-2 grease is what you need for the lubricant. This has a Mineral Oil base, allowing for it to, at some time, drip into whatever it is that you mix without concern for your health. From what I can, tell this is the only thing that needs to be done. Clean out as much of the old grease as possible.

Goto www.mendingshed.com and download for free a Kitchenaid Service Manual that will cover your mixer.

Oil changes are all you need to do for engine lubrication. 10w40 motor oil is what goes into the gearbox. NEVER use synthetic lubricants in the engine. Thay can mess up the clutch. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

Why is car making a screeching sound when AC is on

Most likely a loose/worn air conditioner compressor belt. This is the belt that rotates the compressor. Could be belt tensioner needs replaced, though. Or, might be a problem with the idle pulley. The screech is from the belt or bearings. This is unlikely to be fixed with a lubricant, FYI, other than temporarily. Why is there delayed start & screeching?

The motor needs to be oiled. There are places to add oil on the ends of the motor. There may be a start capacitor that needs replaced too.

Needs lubricating

So try lubricating the unit check out this link...

Should cost less that $12 for a package of sheets. Try one and see if the screeching stops.
Good luck..

Dryer screeching and grinding when running

Hi !
The drive belt has become old and hard.
Just change the drive belt and all will be well.

Please don't try to lubricate the belt as may be suggested by many as cheap quick fix.

I have a 7 year old Lexmark 2381plus dot matrix printer. Recently, the print on the last page of the 3 part form has become very hard to read (very light). I changed the ribbon and have the form setting...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

It would seem you posted twice.

Based on your description, the printer is working, it is not a form issue, the printer head is good, an adjustment might be needed and it works, there is no reason to replace the Lexmark 2381plus printer even if it is 7 years old (not unless you would want to).

To the faint printing on the last of the 3 pages:
  • the take-up spool/wheel drawing the ribbon is not working (most likely). The ribbon is not moving hence the printer head is not striking fresh ribbon area. Check the ribbon cartridge, it may be stuck or the driving spindle where the ribbon's take-up spool/wheel locks into. It may need a bit of cleaning and/or lubrication;
  • the printer head is slightly adjusted away from the paper. Normally, there is a mechanical lever/adjustment that sets how many paper & duplicates are fed. Adjust for 1 only.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Printer

hooooooooooohhh...that's the last thing you want to use on a scanner...will really compromise the mechanism...the mechanism is quite exact in it's lubrication.

is that unit under warranty? that assembly is usually replaced in whole, not in parts.
