SOURCE: Install Windows XP without a CD drive

You'll need to assign the CD drive (which should show up as USB devicein BIOS or setup) as first boot device, if capable on your model/Computer. After you press power button, you should see a menu or dialog that shows something like 'press F2' or 'Delete' to enter setup. Once in setup, you should navigate thru until you find boot options or something of that nature. Select 'Boot from CD' or ' USB Device'. You should now insert your XP CD into the drive, close the tray, then choose 'Save'. It should now let you boot from the XP CD. At the first screen, you should select 'R' for repair console. It will then ask you to select an installation, type a '1' and then press the 'Enter' key. Next line will ask you to type an Administrator password. If you have one, type it, then press Enter. If no password, just tap the Enter key. Now, at the prompt, type CHKDSK C: /r as in (C: a space /r). then tap the Enter. It shoild now attempt to repair your Windows 2000 installation. When it finishes, reboot, go back into Setup and change first boot device to hard drive. Select Save and reboot LT. Have fun!

SOURCE: password

that is because the password in question that you are trying to get past is the BIOS password most likely. Verify that your computer is turned off, remove power cord from back of computer, and find the jumper near the Bios chip on the motherboard. It will usually be close to the battery ( another option, temporarily remove the battery for about 30 seconds, then replace the battery into its proper position ). Be careful when you do this as some battery sockets are a pain to work with. Anyway in nearly all cases, the Bios reset jumper is located very close to both the battery and the bios chip ( firmware ). Removing the Bios reset jumper and positioning it one pin over from the initial position will usually reset the bios and get rid of the bios password requirement. Always put the bios reset jumper back into its initial position before re-appying power to the motherboard. Be careful not to leave anything loose lying around on the motherboard or in the case, else you might fry the motherboard..
Once you have successfully managed to get past the Bios password, then you should see the computer start to boot up normally and prior to Windows boot up and in the Bios routine you can configure the computer to boot to CD first. In many more modern situations, the motherboard is already configured that way.

SOURCE: Cannot Install

It might not run on vista. Vista in incredibly picky and most games needs patches. Best bet is to go to the sims website and see if they have the patch for vista.

When you boot your computer, you need to hit the key to get you into the bios setup. F10, F2 or Del keys are the usual ones.

Once into the bios, change the boot order to make the CD drive first, and then you will boot right to the CD.

Note, you will also have to hit a key when it starts to boot, it will say, hit a key to boot from CD.

If you miss the key to get into the bios, you have to start over again. Sometimes you have to hit the enter bios key over and over to get in there.

SOURCE: my dell desktop doesn't start or boot from cd rom

Basically you need to go to Bios to change your "Boot device pripority". Please follow these steps to do this.

Please follow these steps to install XP on your PC.

1. Please start your PC with power button. At the very first screen, at the left down corner, you will see the button to be pressed to go to Setup i.e. Bios of the PC. For most of the PCs , it is delete button. For some of them, it is F2 also. So, after starting the PC press Del to go into setup.

2. After you enter setup of the PC, please go to Advance bios setup.

3. There you select Boot device priority.

4. here the first boot device priority should be CD ROM, then the HDD. Please see the instructions given at right down corner and select this priority.

5. After you rightly selected boot device priority as given above, Press F10 to save the changes and then press F12 to exit.

6. Now the PC will restart again, but be sure that you put win XP cd in the drive before it restarts.

7. Now you will see a note that : press any key to boot from CD ROM, so please press any key.

8. The PC will boot from the CD ROM now , now you can follow the instructions given on the screen.

Can I use my other computer's w10 cd (which has a key) to bring life back to my crashed laptop?

Re: *********** for upgrade
Why you can find your *********** after upgrading to Windows 10

As for using the CD from the other computer, it depends on the CD. If it is a generic Retail or OEM cd it should be no problem, if the manufacturer has done heavy modification, maybe a problem.

Admin password

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :- http://www.hirensbootcd.net/ http://67.20.82.163/
If you reinstall Windows by booting up with the Windows installation CD you normally don't need the Windows admin password.

My cisnet keeps saying the boot manager is missing. And I've tried to set the boot up. To the cd rom but it still won't let recovery cd reprogram the computer.

go to bios and check if your cdrom is the first available boot device.
if not then make it! .
if it is and you can't boot from cd then your cd/dvd rom drive might be crashed. also check if your cd rom disk have dust scratches on it.

You didn't say wheather the password was for the computer or Windows. 1. If the password is for the computer then you can change it in the BIOS by pressing F2 when the computer boots. This will take you into the BIOS. Here accros the top of the menu you should find a tab called security. Once opened you'll find where the password is entered or canncelled. 2. If it's in Windows you can reboot the computer with the Windows CD. You'l need to do an operating system reinstall. Once Windows asks if you want to install a new operating system continue from there. Two screens later Windows will ask if you want to reinstall the operating system to repair the present system. Reinstalling will delete all passwords.
