When I scan, using the ADF on my brothers mfc 6490, the resulting image is shifted, cutting off the right hand margin of the 8-1/2 x 11" scan. I am using Scansoft Paperport on my XP Pro laptop. The...

I read the whole paragraph and could not find a question, so I will try a few suggestions.
When you scan, select the option to open the scanner interface. It will give you more control on what you scan.

From the flatbed
When the scanner interface appears choose to Preview the scanned area. On the preview image click neat its border and you will see a dotted/ interrupted frame. Play with the borders of the frame to select the area. Intelligent software like Adobe Acrobat rotate the image to right it.

From the ADF
Check the alignment of the paper on the document feeder. Test the first page and see if it is correct. If it is, and all the subsequent pages have the same margins use the ADF If not, maybe you should use the flatbed.

When i go to update my ipod, it says, network connection timed out, please make sure network connection is correct and active. how do i do that so i can update my ipod?

Go to System Preferences from the Apple icon menu (top left) under the Internet & Wireless section there is a Network icon (glass ball looking thing) click on that. green dot next to ethernet (or wireless whatever one you use) means you are connected. yellow dot means ready but not connected. red dot means not connected.
If you have a red dot next to the connection that you use, check your router or modem. You might have to call you ISP if the problems keep happening.

How to cut background from th eimage and paste to other selected background?

If the background is a solid color try to use the magnetic lasso, it does wonders, if the object you are trying to select is a square or circle (doesn't have jagged edges) you can use the marquee tool (the dotted rectangle or square). You can also erase the background out.
Before you do anything, I recommend making a mask, so that you don't actually damage the image itself, or you can make a duplicate layer and hide it so that the image is not damaged. Because there are only so many undo's.

Altering text.

Bitmap images (also known as raster images) are made up of pixels in a grid. Pixels are picture elements; tiny dots of individual color that make up what you see on your screen.

Vectorimages are made up of many individual, scalable objects. These objectsare defined by mathematical equations rather than pixels, so theyalways render at the highest quality. Objects may consist of lines, curves, and shapes with editable attributes such as color, fill, andoutline. Changing the attributes of a vector object does not effect theobject itself. You can freely change any number of object attributeswithout destroying the basic object. An object can be modified not onlyby changing its attributes, but also by shaping and transforming itusing nodes and control handles.

Creating Halftone Dots

in photoshop you can use a filter to create dots you can actually see on screen, cant remember exactly where it is, but it is in the filter menu. Also to print halftone dots you hit print and go into the print preview dialogue box, click on the screens button. another dialogue opens uncheck use printer defaults. This allows you to specify what frequency angle and dot shape you would like for each color you are printing. By default CMYk are specified for the layers visual space, other spot colors can be added using channels and will show up within this dialogue along with CMYK options. however, you can only have one channel selected at a time to get it to print correctly.
Similarly in illustrator, the options are in the print dialogue. detailed info about each of these processes can be found in the help menu of the respective programs. you may want to check out this link. Many of these questions are answered in this forum all the time.

Digital arts & craft is a video card thing

1. Bring the "Display Properties" dialog window (right-click on the desktop, click on Properties)
2. Click on the "Settings" tab. (make sure your screen resolution is set to 1024 by 768, and the color quality is 32 bits)
3. Click on the "Advance" button (this will bring a new dialog box)

On the newly opened dialog box:
4. Click on the "Troubleshoot" tab
5. Set the "Hardware acceleration" to "Full" (drag the slider all the way to where it says "Full")
6. Click "Apply", then "Ok" (this will close the dialog box)
7. Close the "Display Properties" dialog window by clicking on the OK button.

Try turning the toy ON now. I hope this helps.
