Forgotten family setting password for black xbox 360

  • If you enter the passcode incorrectly, you get the option to reset the pass code if you set it up with a security question, and remember the answer.
  • If that isn't an option, you can try calling the Xbox people (1-800-4-MY-XBOX [this is the US number]), and they will be able to help you. (RECOMMENDED)
  • If you don't feel like dealing with them, you can back up all the data, and just reformat the drive. Just so you know, this will ERASE the hard drive, so you'll have to back it up beforehand. To do this, go through the following steps:
  1. If you have two hard drives in it (which is only possibly with the 250 GB slim), I'd recommend removing the extra (250 GB) one before continuing, so no accidental data deletion occurs.
  2. Transfer all the data to a thumb drive (16 GB limitation). Plug in the thumb drive, and it should ask if it can reformat it. Say yes. Then, go to My Xbox, System Settings, Memory, then press Y for Device Options. (If you have two hard drives in the Xbox, you'll want to highlight the permanent one). Then choose Transfer Content, and pick your thumb drive as the destination.
  3. Next, get the Console Serial Number. Go to My Xbox, System Settings, Console Settings, and then System Info. Write down the Console Serial number, which should be at the top.
  4. Finally, go to My Xbox, System Settings, Memory, and press Y for Device Options again, highlighting the drive you backed up earlier. Select Format, and say Yes. This will erase everything on the hard drive, leaving you free to set it up from the beginning all over again. Then you can just restore all the data back from the thumb drive when you're finished.

Hope this helps!

Xbox 360 hard drive says unformmatted even though it has 207 gb of data

Looks like you are going to need to reformat your hard drive. Though it might show available memory, for one reason or another your Xbox can't recognize it as useable. Follow the instructions below for formatting your Xbox 360 hard drive properly:

Important When you format a storage device, all of the information saved on that device is erased and cannot be recovered. Make sure that you either do not want the information stored on that device or have backed up the information to another device before you continue.

To format a storage device
  1. Start your Xbox 360 console without a disc in the tray.
  2. On your console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  3. Select Memory.
  4. Highlight the storage device that you want to format, and then press the Y button on your controller.
  5. Select Format.
  6. You receive the following message: This will delete all content on this device. Do you want to continue?Choose Yes to format the storage device.
  7. If you are asked to enter your console serial number, enter your number, and then select Done. This step helps guard against accidental formatting.

The console serial number is located on the back of the console and behind the oval door on the front of your console.

My toshiba external hard drive wont work in 360, the portable device option is not highlighted once it is connected, the external is getting powered from the xbox though.

When you first put in your External hard drive to your computer, did it ask you if you wanted to use as a sort of passport or did it not give you any options at all like Usb flash drive. you should not have any special program on for the External hard drive. It should just be set up to store data and nothing else. I had a similar dilemma with a WD passport. When i put it on my 360 it did not work. then i just made the drive like a plain storage device and the xbox could read and play my files.

Recently bought a refurbished 360 elite. The system knows a hard drive is present, but it's listed as "unformatted," and won't let me use it to recover my gamer tag. Formatting it does absolutely nothing....

To make the xbox360 hard drive 'formatted' to the console you need to follow these simple steps.
1, Go to the system settings on the dash board.
2, Select memory settings and highlight Xbox360 hard drive option, do not select, but press the yellow or the Y button.
3, From the menu that appears, select 'Format' and the hard drive will then be formatted to the console enabling you to use it as it was meant to be used.
Other than that, you will need a new hard drive as the one they have provided is faulty.
Lesson learnt for buying the cheaper 're-furbished' product. I hope this helps. Good luck.
