If it's freezing up, chances are the freon is low, but read the info on the panel near the taps or the compressor to find out how much you should have. you need r-22 (if that is what it takes), guages, a thermometer for dry and wet, a temperature sensor for the tubing, and an epa license for moving freon. and there has to be a high side tap. the lower the pressure, the lower the temp, but if the temp after the metering device is below 32 f, it'll freeze. also if the condensate drain is clogged and the air flow across the evaporator coils is restricted.

HOW TO ADD FREON TO A WATER COOLER

You need to check the line pressures on both the high and low sides before adding/removing freon. If you are not familiar with this process you should consult a professional.

Amana air conditioner unit, model ARUF182416AA keeps freezing over. filter is clean.

Freezing is caused by low freon pressure sounds like your unit needs to be charged.

Have Ptac units that work fine one minute and 2 hours later just blow warm air.. some that also freeze up the front coils

I think your PTAC is under charge, if the air filter is clean and the evaporator is also clean together with the blower. Check the freon charge and refill if suction pressure is below 50psi and discharge is below 190 psi.

Unit is fully charged but suction line freezes

hi there,
this sympton persist in over charging of freon it is call super charge, exessive charging of freon resulted to freeze your suction line, this is bad for the cycling process.to reduces freon charging purge out exessive freon on low side charging port.make sure service charge pressure gauge valve was installed.to determine the exact operating pressure. have a nice day fix my rate, thanks a lot.

The unit outside is getting ice around the line close to where you put refrigerant in. House not as cool as needed.

Freon is low. Sounds counter-intuitive, but the large return line should be cool( even have condensation on it) but never cold enough to freeze.Either use factory pressure settings or add just enough Freon until Ice melts. If unit has a high-side sight glass there should be no bubbles present. Do not overfill.

Problem with central air condition

that depends on the size of the unit and lenght odf the line set.. to give you a general answer your suction pressure should be about 70 PSIG and you liquid line (small line) should be between 245-265 depending on the outdoor temp you will need a set of freon gauges to check this these readings are for an R-22 system if you have R-410a the readings will be much higher

The contactor on the outside unit is sticking and must be replaced. The inside unit cycles off and the outside continues to run causing the refrigerant lines to freeze up.
