Do you have heat?does it stay hot while in coll down?if so your heating element is grounded, open the door, look up and remove the two screws holding the top panel in place, pick top panel up just a little and move it to the left that should remove the top panel, put it on cool down or no heat and run it,if the heat stays on this is your problem the element is sagging and touching the metal cover around the element, the way the timer works is on timed dry it counts down like a clock until it turns off when on more or less or auto same thing the dryer starts, the heat comes on and when it hits temp. the heat shuts off when the heat is off the timer will advance to off when the heat starts again the timer stops,if the element isn't grounded then you still could have a bad element there are two elements in your dryer if one is broke the timer won't advance or some have only one element so if the timer doesn't advance you probably have no heat or a bad cycling thermostat or a bad sensor up front where the lint filter is.you'll have to check them with a meter.first thing to check is the heater located behind the drum.

mr. trachsel do you know how to use a meter if not it's very easy,go online or an automotive store should sell meters, get a multi meter one that you can do continuity checks with, set the meter on 20k ohms, you'll see a 1 on the screen, touch the leads together and you'll see anything but 1 whenever you do this you want the dryer unplugged, remove at least one of the wires that go to the part you're checking, put the leads one on each side where the wires connect to the part,if you see 1 the part is bad or open,if you see anything else but 1 the part is good or closed,i should have told you this but when someone writes in i just take for granted that they know this,i hope this will help you out,if you do repair the dryer and have anymore questions let me know i check in usually every night.

SOURCE: Dryer takes a very long time to dry a load.

Some dryers have more than one heating elliment..

A way to check is -- take the exaust hose off.. Put a mirror so you can see into the hole & hopefully see the heating elliment(s).. When running they should glow like a stove burner..
If it is not gloing its not working & needs to be replaced..

I suspect that one may have went out..

I hope this helps !!
Please rate me good ;o)

My kenmore elite #110.73012181 electric dryer with autonsense feature no longer sensing, keeps on drying for hours after clothes dry when on less dry mode or normal dry mode

The drying circuit has to have a sensor to control heat and the timer controls time (on timed drying). Often sensors fail "open" and dryers stop drying. This sensor or the circuit seems to have failed closed (runs all the time). I suspect the sensor has failed in the drying control.

you could have bad gas coils.if the timer doesn't advance in auto dry most likely you're having heat problems, when the dryer heats and then the heat shuts off then the timer will advance, when the heat comes back on the timer stops,it does this until the clothes are dry.gas coils when starting to fail will work normally until they get hot and then no heat until the coils cool down then they will work again,on time dry the timer just keeps counting down until the time runs out no matter what's happening to the dryer.i've seen the coils fail after the first 10 minutes and other times for 20 to 30 minutes but usually if the load is big and in time dry the clothes will feel warm and you'll need to dry them a second time to get them fully dry, also while you're in ther you should clean out the dryer at least once a year, clean out the duct that the lint filter slides into, vacuum out the cabinet where the motor is and blow out the vent line,if it's a long run i use a leaf blower to blow out the line, remove it from the back of the dryer, stick the leaf blower into the vent line and blow it out,i've blown out birds nest out of some lines, your clothes will dry on time, you won't go through so many parts and you won't have to worry about a dryer fire, the gas coils are on top of the gas valve, remove the two phillips screws, lift off the cover and change out the coils.next time you use the dryer keep an eye on it,after it runs for 20 minutws start checking it,you'll hear a click, then another click and the flame will lite, look into the gas tube and if the flame isn't liting then you have bad gas coils.

Hello Gregory,

Their are 2 things that will typically cause that

1) the venting is crushed/blocked/restricted,check the vent from the back of dryer all the way to where it exits outdoors

2) i can not find your exact model number so i dont kow if it has a computer control or simple timer
if computer control the thermister(electronic thermostat) is what i would suspect
if simply timer the cycling thermostat is in question

So ya know the thermal fuse is a non resettable fuse and if were bad the entire dryer would not start so disregard it as beig the trouble uless the dryer doesn't run

there isn't a timer on this machine, you have a control board,if the time isn't counting down correctly sounds like you have a bad control board that's inside the console

Kenmore Electric dryer runs on cool down forever.

Call the mfr and ask them about it. This problem may be pretty complicated. There may be a problem with your board that tells it to go to cool down. Can you set the timer for 45-60 minutes and it stay on heat for that long?
