Defrost problem problem first started when the door to the freezer was left open all night.. i shut it down for over 24 hrs.. and let it completely defrost.. frost built up on the back wall of freezer.. after plugging back in and letting run.. it does fine for about 4 or 5 days.. then i notice the back wall frosting up again... after removing the inside panel.. the whole unit is frozen solid.. it seems to be an auto defrost problem... is there anyway to reset..?? fans are working good.. fridge is only about 5 or 6 yrs old.. side by side.. was working fine until the door left open incident...

No there is nothing to reset. It could be one of three things. Let the unit defrost completley. Take the same back pannel off. Check to see if your heater at the bottom is discolored or if you can see thats its broken inside. The next thing it could be is the limith switch which is located on the top of the evaperator. If both those seem fine you can go to the back of the unit and check the main control board. Most of the time its the heater though.

Good Luck

LEFT DOOR OPEN OF FREEZER. CLOSE3D DOOR FOR 24 HRS. nOW LIGHTS FLASHING ON SUPER COOL AND SUPER FREEZE.

You will need to unplug and defrost the fridge for a few hours then replug the power. Leaving the doors open allows moisture to freeze on the evaporator while compressor continues to run confusing the control board

How do I defrost my GE Refrigerator model GTS18KBMBRCC

If you need to defrost it because of lots of frost on inside back wall of freezer (this would be frost you could scrape off and make sno-cone), then you have some sort of defrost problem req a tek. If its water that froze to ice or cuz you left door open or some such then you must open ALL doors and UNPLUG, do not just shut off.Lights on will melt plastic lens. must be off probably for at least 24 hrs. You could use a hair dryer or paint remover, but IT CAN MELT THE PLASTIC VENT,BLADES , etc. so I suggest turning it off.

GE( 2-door) ref portion door left open the whole night,it's not working now except the freezer. Tried unplugging it for 24 hrs, but still not working.

the air ducts could still have ice in them, remove the bottom kick panel, you should find a tech sheet either on the kick panel or taped in the cabinet area down there and it will tell you how to manually put your fridge into defrost, you don't want to work on it while it's running or you'll make it worse, you'll know it's in defrost when the compressor shuts down and the fan in the freezer stops blowing if you can't find it shut down the fridge or unplug it again, remove the food from the freezer,if you're handy remove the back inside wall of the freezer and with a hair dryer melt out any ice up in the vents and blow the air from the hair dryer up above the fan motor and in the corners, ,you'll see water dripping where the ice is,heat it up until no more water drips down, hit one side for a few minutes and then the other side for like 5 minutes at a time so you don't damage anything from heating it up to much,or if you have another fridge leave it unplugged for a couple of days.if you can't remove the wall blow the air into the air slots in the back wall panel,in the right and left side corners and then in the middle, have a light or flash light, you should be able to see water dripping down, keep blowing the air in until no more water is dripping, might take you like 30 to 45 minutes to do this, then turn it back on and see if you can feel cold air blowing into the fridge section,if not shut it down and heat it up again,if you see water dripping there's still ice in there, all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows the cold air up nto the fridge section and the air returns to the freezer through the air ducts, when the door was open warm and cold air meet and forms ice in the air ducts,if the fan is working and depending on your model and next time you write send the model number you could have a damper it could of got damaged but it sounds like all you have is frozen air ducts

My freezer is now my fridge, and my fridge doesn't cool hardly at all. It runs continually. Frost is built up on back of freezer. Right now it's flashing FF on the front. We cleaned the back with an air...

You mentioned the back of freezer was covered with ice. It sounds like a defrost problem. A problem that has been unseen for quite awhile by the sounds of it. In extreme cases you may have to shut it off completely, unpluged and doors open for 24 hrs. or more. Once the unit has defrosted completely, it will cool normally...for a little while. Check the defrost heater and dts (defrost termination switch) and defrost timer or electronic control. If you're not sure, manual defrosting will by you some time (maybe a week) to have a pro look at it for you. Good luck

FRIDGE/FREEZER ON THE BLITZ?

Try removing everything out of your fridge, switch it off and open all doors for 12 hrs. Then close doors and switch it on for another 24 hrs before putting in you stuff. most likely the evaporator is iced up, you need to defrost if fully.

Freezer only freezing to 20 degrez

If the door was left ajar for any extended period frost has built up on the cooling coils. A complete defrost of the freezer should take care of the problem. Normally a frost free system will clear the ice from the cooling coil when the defrost time cycle happens. However frost may have built up in areas where the heaters can not readily remove it in a normal defrost cycle and shutting the unit down with the door open for about 24 hours should clear it out.
