Question about AcerPower FH - P4 631 3 GHz (S6463624) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Have an AcerPower FH desktop. Runs good but recently has popped up a system error saying Administrator has prohibited use of cd/dvd rom drives. However I've not changed any setting and according to Device manager the device is working properly. Any suggestions?

It seems like the issue is due to a spyware infection. Try running a scan using one of these tools.

Use your Microsoft Windows CD diks that came with your computer.

Boot off of the disk by setting the CD Drive as first boot device. Set this in the BIOS.

Take care!

My AcerPower SV has only an internal cd-rom. So iwant to take it out and install an internal dvd-rom. However only one side panel comes off the computer and there doesn't appear to be way to get the other...

This service manual says to remove the front bezel (plastic cover) by "releasing 6 latches". However on my AcerPower the front bezel appears to screwed on, which really complicates things. I'm pretty sure once the front bezel is removed, the floppy and cd-rom can slide out from the front. Hope this helps.

CD drive and USB problems

sounds like a antivirus /firewall/antispyware configuration issue where the porogram will not alow access to removable media in an attempt to prevent viruses from entering your system.check the options and settings within any program mentioned above installed on this system.

the other thing it could be is directly related to the message given, you as a user dont have rights to access, install, read, write removable media and as such you need to change the rights given under that particular user or log in as someone with admin rights, ask the admin to change it.

Acerpowerfh keeps turning on and off rebooting why?

it does sound like a boot virus problem. you need to boot into system restore. to boot from the restore partition you need to switch on your pc and repeatedly press either F10, F11, Alt+F10, or Alt+F11. you do this until you see the system restore starts. you will be able to fix windows, or you can do a desturctive restore and restore your pc back to factory settings, but you'll loose your photos and anything saved on the hard drive.

Data Device (USB, disc drive, etc) locking up

You're missing important Windows files. To catch which ones download and run a program called Dial-a-fix. You'll need to keep your original Operating system disk at hand because if the missing files are found Windows will ask for this disk. Also, after that you can run SFC /scannow at the run prompt.

Good Luck

Administrator has prohibited access to cd/dvd rom drives

Sounds like spyware/virus problem to me. I've run into this situation 10 or 15 times and that usually that was the problem. Run an antispyware program and see if that does the trick.

Sounds like system and registry files may be damaged. Firstly if you have not got a windows xp cd go to double click My computer>tools>folder options>view and uncheck 'hide protected operating system files'. This will allow windows to see the system cache, but even this may be corrupt and you will require a copy of Windows XP for the required files. Now run this programme, go to Start>run then type sfc /scannow (there is a space after sfc and the forward slash). Press enter and it may require a restart to run file checker. If the files in the cache folder are corrupt it will ask for the cd.
