Question about Acer AL1916W 19" LCD Monitor

2 Answers

ACER Al1916W goes blank in 3 seconds. It shows ACER splash screen for a sec., the desk top for .5 sec, then goes black. There is a very high pitch squeel each time there is any display. Power switch turns form green to orange after this 2-3 second display cycle. I suspect a bad inverter and the monitor is going into High Voltage protection mode interrupt.

W-H-A-T? Are you referring to a voltage stabilizer?
The answer is no; no voltage stabilizer.

Screen behaves this way no matter what PC it is connected to or if no PC is connected.

Your guide shows how to disassemble the monitor--thank you. But, the repair procedure seems to be for fixing a bad power supply, not replacing the inverter. The inverter, I believe, is show in the fifth illustration at the top of the unit above the power supply's metal shield. Or is is behind the metal shield located below the power supply's metal shield.
DO you have a guide specifically for replacing the inverter on this model LCD?

Hello,

Yes, The inverter is the problem on your monitor. We have a step by step guide to dis-assemble and repair your monitor posted on our web site at:
www.ccl-la.com/monitor_repair.htm Your model is the same as the westinghouse L1875NW. We have a parts kit for $12.00 if you need it, it can be purchased on the guide page. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we can do it for $35 + shipping. This is a common problem with that series of monitors but the repair will get you back going.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

The inverter in the board under the metal shield it is shown in picture 7 still attached to the driver board. It picture 8 and 9 you see the top and bottom of the board. The piece you see in the fifth picture is just a buss board connecting the lcd to the signal connector. On desktop LCD monitors the inverter is usually parts of the power supply board as it is here. There is no need to replace the board, you can just repair your bad one. If you want you can pull your board and send it to us for repair. We warranty all of our repairs.

Monitor comes displays Acer logo and goes black after 3 seconds, with indicator light still green.

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My monitor shows the desktop for about 5 seconds when turned on & then goes black. How can I fix it?

You need to open it up and inspect the inside, first components to check will be the capacitors, look for caps with bulging top/seal, burnt parts, etc. Pictures will help a lot. See example of failed monitoirs due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

My acer al1916w displays the image for 3 seconds then goes black

Sounds like your video card. Check to make sure it's connected properly. If so, check to make sure it's properly seated to *********** board. The possible issue could be the card is connected enough to display the picture, but not enough to communicate with the monitor to stay on because it has an active feed. Best of luck fixing it

Blank screen

Possible that the HV inverter or the CFL tubes are going bad / defective. I suggest to bring the unit to an authorized Acer service center for proper check-up / test & fix the problem. regards

Power supply on 17" acer monitor

franh, Typical of a lcd/fpd monitor! There is nothing you or hundreds of others can do to repair it all by yourself. I have repaired 3 monitors and helped tutor 2 others on fixya with their monitors. All had same exact symptom as your monitor. I need you to do a simple test for me. With failed Acer monitor near to your Fully Booted PC with a known good desktop being displayed on back-up monitor, quickly swap out the monitor cables from the back of the PC. Keep touching the CTRL key on you keyboarb every 30-50 seconds to keep the PC from sending out sleep mode command to monitor while doing the reconnect of acer to your PC monitor output port. Make sure the Acer also is connected to a live wall outlet/power strip. Turn on the Acer and note what happens. If screen shows a sharp clear image for a second, then goes black, do the following. Get a bright flashlight and shine it on the screen from a distance of 1 or 2 inches and tell me if you can see the desktop display. get back to me with your observations. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@ aol.com.

Acer AL1916W pluged into lap top but can't get both to run.

Have you used the Fn button on your laptop and changed the video display Icon on the Blue Function keys. You need to change the display wait a few seconds for it to take affect. There are several modes try them all so you know how to use them.

Screaming acer!

sometimes if the inverter board (the part that drives the backlight) has a cold solder joint on it, it can actually generate a high pitched resonating sound (aka a screaming squeal sound)

if it's under warranty, have the manufacturer correct the problem.

if not under warranty, retouch the solder points on the inverter board, or have a repair tech fix it for you.
