Question about Craftsman 17.5 hp 42 in. Deck Lawn Tractor - CA Model
Key-start Craftsman mower will start with pull but not with key; was recently tuned. Seems to be turning over fine with the key but just will not catch. Anybody, help?!?!? Unfortunately I do not have the strenght to deal with the pull.....
When it turns over, is it somewhat sluggish (not as fast as before)? I would suspect your battery is weak, and the voltage drops so low that the engine does not spin fast enough to start. Also, without knowing what type mower this is (which model) it could be the voltage drops too low to generate spark (if equipped with an ignition module)
Whereby pull starting it, you aren't loading the voltage down with the starter, and the ignition module still works... So it starts.
Charge the battery per the owners manual. If that doesn't help, you may need a new battery, or you may have a bad connection between the battery and starter solenoid (heavy cables). If a connection has high resistance, it will drop more voltage at a given current.
