Question about Samsung DVD-HD870 DVD Player

1 Answer

DivX subtitles Hello, Do you know the subtitles specs is terms of fonts and encoding for the above model? Greek subtitles seem to be supported, I can get them working but some of the letters are not displayed correctly. The above happens with ANSI encoding (.srt file) and Unicode - ASCII Escaped. It doesn't seem to work with UTF-8

Re: DivX subtitles

This is one of the better sites around for this type of information.

You can also do a web search with the model number asking about language support, and subtitle support.

Standalone DVD player with DivX why does the VBR encoded Audio lag the Video

DivX or XVid encoded MP4 Video codec or AVI will almost always have either the Dolby Digital AC3 Codec or the MP3 encoded audio codec see the following links; Fraunhofer MP3 Decoder or LAME MP3 Encoder

This fixed audio lag can sometimes be caused by VBR audio encoded files and starts part way through the playback as opposed to CBR audio some standalone DVD players will exhibit sound lag in this case. It is a good idea to re-encode the VBR to CBR audio this usually solves the problem.

I suggest that you convert/encode all your DivX AVI files into CBR audio to avoid any such errors; all commercial DVD Video Audio is encoded in CBR (constant bitrate) which also reduces the audio filesize unless its encoded in LCPM which will give a much larger audio component.

Check the audio bitrate type open the AVI in GSpot the example below shows an AC3 audio already in CBR so can be left alone and should work fine.

This audio MP3 conversion process it a bit of a long way around I know, but it does work!
  • Open video in VirtualDubMod or VirtualDubMP3 (if there is an index error this can sometimes fix it for you.
  • Ignore the error warning that the video contains VBR audio.
  • Extract audio as MP3 ("demux" in VirutaldubMod or save as WAV, then rename to MP3 in VirtualdubMP3).
  • Convert audio to WAV with CDex
  • Open original video in VirtualDub,choose "direct stream copy" for video and "WAV audio" with "Full audio processing" with CBR MP3 compression (and interleaving with appropriate delay if out of sync) for audio.

You could also use several other easier methods including AVIDemux which uses VirtualDubMod or scan in the DVD-Video using TMPEnc v4.0 Xpress and applying a time lead OR lag however this does not solve a progressive lag *** but can be used to re-author a fixed audio lag error in milliseconds you can use either Windows Media Player Classic or KVM Player in real-time to find this lag or lead error and then adjust accordingly

If you can't work AVIDemux then AVIrecomp will be your best solution this is a bit more user friendly

NOTE> always keep a Backup copy of the AVI before you make any drastic changes as you could make the file unplayable the above process will only work on FIXED AUDIO LAG AVI files.

Progressive Audio Lag (starts in synch and runs fast or slow throughout the AVI is almost impossible to remove with re-encoding the AVI using the above methods.

*** Feel free to comment if you know of a foolproof way other than performing a full re-encode from the MPG2 or DVD VOB file.

Hello, I'm trying to display Arabic srt subtitles ...

If you have Arabic lang. in your windows, and you have the movie (.avi) and the subtitle (.srt) in the same folder with exactly the same name for both 2 files, and you use VLC as media player .. then:

1-Download (Subtitle Edit 2.9.3) software .. it's free!.
2-after setup .. open the subtitle (.srt file ) and adjust "defult file encoding" (same window-left side) to: UNICODE
4- Save (from file tab).
5- You can also adjust the time (later or earlier).

In case you have any questions, my e-mail:

I put divix movie on usb and put in player and he cant read it i tryed 5 different usb drive and then i try form cd he cant read divix movies. On one usb i have some other data he read that but "DIVIX"...

You are not using a properly encoded dvd. read the user manual and when encoding your own divx file (only trouble free guarantee) you MUST stay within the specs. you must use the following:

1. proper DivX Version, XviD Isn't a guarentee to work
2. Must stay within proper bitrate resolutionwhen and frames per second when encoding and make sure you stick to PAL or NTSC settings whichever your country or player used or was bought in.
3. use mp3 2 channel audio with proper bitrates and sample rate should be 41,000k or 48,000k or 96,000k
if you do your research and stick to these steps you'll be on your way to encoding your own videos and TV shows in no time and with little effort.

audio supported for listening to music is MP3 WMA & AAC (Which should be in the form of .m4a)

I have a portable Kawasaki DVD player. It does not play AVI videos. Tellme what to do please.

This normally depends on what FOURCC the AVI has encoded inside the file.

Look here at my DivX Rox!! facebook group for the correct DivX FOURCC that will normally work on most standalone players on AVI with FOURCC =DIVX or DX50

Most DVD players that have DivX support require these two FOURCC tags, DIV3,DIV4,DIV5 and DIV6 wont always work but sometimes you can change this without re-encoding using a batch FOURCC changer.

As a general rule of thumb even when you change the FOURCC of the AVI you may experience audio lag on the file it is best to convert all AVI's to DivX using the DivX Convertor that is available with the DivX Professional codec costs $19.99 (£13.99) and is well work the money.

I have had some success with Xvid AVI's with FOURCC XVID but with audio lag and video jerks.

DVD movie onto a CD-RW

first off, your not going to get dvd quality on cd, if ur talking about a standard dvd that u wish to put on cd, dont even bother.

4GB(DVD) to 700MB(CD) ? re-encoding it to that size will look like crap.
