If you can't get online on either machine, plug your ethernet cable directly from your cable or dsl modem into your desktop. If it shows a network connection and you still can't get online, it may be a service provider problem. I am assuming that your service provider did not ship you a router, only a modem. Hooking up 2 routers on the same connection can be very tricky.

Did you setup any type of security on the router? If so, did you enter the password for this into your laptop?

Since you say there is a strong connection to the router, have you tried accessing the router from your laptop by typing its IP address into your web browser address line?

  • Anonymous Jul 30, 2009

I understand you can't get online with your laptop, but if you open your internet browser on the laptop and type the address of your router, 192.168.10.1, it will connect to the router's firmware. Here you can check out your connection issues.

If you can't type in the router IP address and connect to the router, then either you are not connected to it or you have some type of virus that has corrupted your winsock2 file. This is the type of problem that requires a step by step conversation or examination by a technician.

If you have an internet connection already, why do you need the netgear router?

Error 10091 is "Provider entry RSVP TCP service provider could not perform simple loopback communication".
It sounds as if you are setting up the router wrongly, consult your ISP.

I cannot get internet on my laptop from an open access point with Time Warner internet

Hello,

Though you are getting strong signals from the router, the router itself may not be connected to the Internet. The owner may leave the router on but power off the modem. It is possible that they may use the router for thier own private network with no connection to the Internet. When you connect to the router, check your network and sharing center to see if you see an X marked on the connection between the router and the Internet. If you do, the router is not connected to the modem.

The signal from my router to my Samsung blu ray is not strong enough

There are several things you need to consider with wireless connection:
Distance - How far is the Netgear router from the Samsung Blu ray? Try changing the wireless channel on the Netgear router that can help boost the signal. Wireless Security- Have you enabled wireless security on the router? Is it WEP or WPA? Make sure that you input the wireless security key on the Blu Ray player and that you have setup wireless settings correctly.Number of wireless devices - Check the number of wireless devices(laptops, desktops, pda's, etc) connecting to the router as it also weakens the signal. And if wireless security is not enabled on your Netgear router, there's a chance that your neighbor might be connecting to your router via wireless.
You can also test how strong the signal is by placing a wireless laptop on the same location where the blu ray player is. If the laptop gets a weak signal as well, you can try placing the router closer to the blu ray player.

I HAVE WILDBLUE ON MY DESKTOP, I ALSO HAVE A LAPTOP THAT I WANT TO BE WIRELESS, BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW OR WHERE TO HOOK IT UP

scan with the wireless utility on your laptop and see if it detects the signal of the router. Once it shows you the signal , connect to the router with the options given or double click on the signal
hope that helps

I use a dl 514 router. the computer shows a wireless connection and a strong signal but i'm not able to get online. now that I'm using a cable, it still shows a wireless connection with a strong signal.

Its quite likely that the router is not connected to your computer wirelessly. Which means, your wireless card is not picking up a IP address. I would suggest two thigns 1. In your wireless utlity , try to repair the connection. 2. Check if you have a static IP address. If you do, remove it.
Hope this helps

My US Robotics USR8054 Wireless Modem stopped working

DHCP may not be working on the router. What IP address does the router give your computers? It should be a 192.168.123.xxx address as default. If you are not getting an IP, then you will have to set a static IP in the range above to connect to the router setup webpage and reenable DHCP.

Lost ability to connect to home network after phone/DSL failure

Recreate your wlan network.
WLAN signal refers only to radio signal between Router and PC no link with your capability to pass-through: wrong password, access list or firewall can block your access with the strongest radio signal.
Check (or recreate ) your credential on your PC.
Check if you can log as admin into your Router.

Connecting WUSB100 to Wireless G WRT54G

laptops have a wide range reciever built around the screen and tend to be far better than a normal usb dongle.

The fact that your pc is downstairs will be effected a lot because the signals from the router will be bouncing around in an area around the antenna and above, signals below will be effected by floors, doors and wall partitions.

Your best solution would be to place the router on a phone line downstairs and see if the signal is increased.

Wireless connection keeps falling

It may be just a problem of the signal bouncing around and your laptop is struggling at times to find the signal. Some earlier laptops don't have a wireless booster built in the screen. Go to your laptops' web site and see if there are any updated drivers for your wireless card. If still unhappy with results purchase a USB wireless dongle and dissable wireless card, it may have a better reception area, or purchase a signal booster that works in conjunction with your wireless router.
