Question about Sony BRAVIA KLV-40U100M 40 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

2 Answers

Sony bravia kdl40s20l1 lcd goes into standby mode ocassionally. It just started doing it. After it does it i unplug it and wait 30 seconds i plug it back in and it works. Although it is starting to happen once to twice a day. Can it be the bulb maybe? my old sony had the same problem and i called and they said it was the bulb. I replaced it and it worked fine afterwards. Thank you

Check the U24 (CPU reset IC) on the "A" board. It may be burned. If you have a DVM (voltmeter) check for 3.3V across SW1 connections near this device. If you don't have 3.3V, U24 is bad. This part is not available from Sony. The TV may work if you just remove U24 from the board. I posted this fix on Agoraquest also, you can read more there (I'm "Roundabout" on that forum). Hope that helps

Syomak, the U24 chip is very small, has three pins (one on one side of the device, and two on the other) and is located near the very large CPU "Genesis" IC on the 'A' circuit board. It's sort of halfway between the Genesis chip and another chip marked as U5. You have to look at the board very closely to see it. It's very tiny and you could overlook it easily. It looks like a surface mount transistor. If you have any more questions, just post back here. As far as locating the actual part for purchase, good luck with that. Sony refuses to supply it, preferring instead to sell you the entire board.

Syomak, everyone that has responded to me on Agoraquest and Techlore forums regarding my fix for this problem have reported their set is working now with U24 removed. No one has attempted to replace it yet, and my own set is also still working fully. I found a replacement from an IC manufacturer (see my post on Techlore for more info) but haven't installed it yet, and may not until (or if) the TV stops working. Why worry about it if the set works fine? It won't harm the set in any way to run it without this chip.

Glad you got your set working. Many others have too, since I first posted this fix over a month ago.

    Hi xSonyTech,
I have a 40" Sony Bravia KDL-40S20L1 that the screen went black with 4 blinking lights after it is turned on for about 30 minutes. I opened up the back but do not see a Genesis CPU on the AUt board or other boards like QT, QS, BUon the unit. I downloaded the service manual fom the internet and coul dnot find any reference to the U24. The service manual has a reference on the first page being a WAX2 chassis and Remote Commander = RM-YD005. Not sure if I have the right manual but it does apply to model KDL-40S20L1.
I am not technical at all but I tried look for U24 with a magnifying glass but could not see a chip with that mark on it.
I appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thank You - AmyJo

AnyJoe, This fix only applies to the KLV-32U100M and KLV-40U100M sets. I don't know why it appears on this page with both the KLV-40U100M and the KDL-40S20L1. If you notice at the top of this page, it has both model numbers, one is in gray and one in bold type. Sorry, I don't know about the model you have, it may be something totally different causing your problem. I would suggest looking on Agoraquest or Techlore for a fix in your case. Do a search on both sites, and if you don't see your issue listed, register on one or both and ask if someone can help you.

My 15 month Celcus LCD423D913FHD tv will not turn on. The standby light is lit and will flicker but will not power up the tv. What is the likely problem?

Fault with its main board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ . In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Sony bravia KDL40S20L1 Lost complete video. Still have audio.

First, unplug all wires/cables from the back of the television including the power cable. Then plug the power cable in and using the power button on the television, turn on the tv and hit the menu button on the side of the television. I

f you have a menu, it could be a simple fix (meaning there isn't a bad board, etc).

You could also use the remote control to try to enter maintenance mode to see if the screen works.

Make sure if your remote has four little white buttons under the power button, select TV

With the tv plugged in and OFF (this is standby) press the following four keys in order within a second of each other.

DISPLAY / 5 / VOLUME + / TV POWER

When the screen comes on (even if black) press the JUMP key quickly once or twice.

if you see a menu, the boards should be okay. If not, might be a little expensive or you didn't press the buttons in time.

In general, if you see a menu on the screen, the lcd board and the electronics involved with making a picture should be okay and it might be loose connections

My Sony Bravia KDL-40S2000 keeps powering off by itself and going into standby mode. I have to unplug the tv and wait at least a minute to plug it back up and it works for about 11 min. and goes back out.

Problem may be the power supply, check in it thoroughly and find the falty components.Remove the faulty one and replace new one.
Such as components may be diod, capacitor, power booster. If you are able to do your self other wise take it to the workshop.

40'' Sony Bravia goes into standby with the light blinking 9 times

I finally managed to solve this problem by unplugging everything - scarts - HDD cables - power etc and left it for an hour. When I turned it back on again the problem had sorted itself out.

BRAVIA KDL-V32A12U PICTURE LOSS

THREE Blinks
B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power
supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
FIVE Blinks
AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about
30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking,
try turning up screen slightly.
