Wpa key

The WPA encryption key is configured in the wireless settings in the Netgear Wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password
You can now change the default admin password and configure the wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Router wifi and computer dont connect

Some later model wireless routers have the Password(ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router andthis information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adaptersin your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit yourrequirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorizedaccess. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cablefrom your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computerand enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login andpassword and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID andEncryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 togenerate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born inJanuary 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. Toconnect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop, configure thewireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings ieSSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptops cancommunicate with your wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r10267861-network_security_key

I need help getting the wireless key from the router

If you need wireless password(security key like WEP or WPA) or you would like to setup wireless security for your Netgear router, access the router setup page by typing http://www.routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1(sometimes it's 192.168.0.1) in the address field of your browser and then press Enter.
Enter
admin for the router user name and your password (or the default, password).

11_28_2011_6_36_47_am.png

After logging in. Look at the main menu on the left, click on Wireless Settings, from there you can check the Wireless Key(For WEP you need Key 1,2,3 or 4 whichever is selected... For WPA you need passphrase) or you can setup wireless security from there if you haven't done so.

Describe your NetGear Problem Cannot get Apple on line. Need to get WPA key? Comcaast states must go through you to get WEP key or password

I understand that you need to check the security key so as to connect the computer with the router's wireless network.

In order to get this key we need to login to the router's page using any computer which is physically connected to router. Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router so as to check the network key:

1. Open a web browser like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.

2. Access the router's GUI by typing 'http://192.168.1.1' or 'http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.

3. When prompted for Username and Password, please enter 'admin' for the Username and 'password' for Password.

4. Click on Wireless Settings (under Setup) from the left menu.

5. Check if WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) or WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key) is selected under 'Security Options'.

6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the passphrase (or network key).

7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the router's wireless network.

VALIDATING IDENTITY

I've also had this problem when trying to connect my Medion Laptop through a Netgear Range Extender. It would find the router wirelessly but not through the Netgear. I had tried every solution on the web for days without success. Thanks to this page and a contributor who suggested updating the driver (which I had thought of previously) I did that and it all works fine. My laptop is 7 years old and wouldn't recogise WPA-PSK which was the setting on a newly installed router.

Update your Driver. :)

Laptop says validating identity

Right click on wireless network connection and go to properties. From the Wireless Networks tab, choose your wireless network and then click Properties.

Click the Authentication tab. On the Authentication tab, Uncheck"Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication" for this network check box. and click oK.

Now reconnect to the wireless network and you will be able to connect to it.

IF you still face issue then please enable WPA encryption on the wireless router and that should work fine with both the laptops.
