It was a fuse in the power supply unit. my unit was different than everyone else so it was tough desiding just what the fuse was. it was a grey cylinder shaped like a fuse alright....but wasnt in the normal fuse slot. after much searching and looking at the different images of other units........I just said well , if it looks like a fuse......I checked it for contanuity with a test light and a small milli amp currnent.
I hopped it with a jumper wire....plugged it in....Its alive !!!!!

This unit uses a DC to DC converter, and it is very sensitive to voltage spikes, it does have a fuse on the power supply and it also has 4 solid states fuses that look like transistors and resistors on the power supply board.

Can anyone advise what might be wrong with my Acer Aspire L100. We had a power cut the other night and it knocked off her computer. The unit will not restart and is completely dead. Are there any simple...

I am assuming you weren't plugged into a surge protector when you lost power. During power outages, spikes in voltage occur, so what happens is there's no mechanism to interrupt that spike by grounding, which surge protectors are designed to do. Any laptop/computer components cannot handle this voltage spike as they are delicate to certain voltage tolerances. I hate to say it, but your laptop is toast.

My sony emplifier just went dead in two days after buying it, it's a home theater emplifier,it doesn't want to switch on anymore

There must have been some power surge which must have damaged the power supply unit. Some of the new Sony systems have class D amplifier which uses Switch Mode Power Supply. They are very light and efficient but are very sensitive to spikes and surges unlike good old heavy transformers.
Since its only a few day old just return it and get your replacement. Remember to plug all Audio and Video equipment in future through a surge protector . Sometimes known as spike guard.

I can jump it but then it runs for a minute and then quits running

Hi, if the car dies after removing the jumper cables, the alternator is not working. Remove it and have it tested at your local parts chain. If you have any questions, please let me know, and thanks for using FixYa.

What happens if u connect the negative booster cable to the positive battery terminal or vice versa

If you reverse polarity, SERIOUS electrical malfunctions can occur although some vehicles do have reverse polarity protection. Do not rely on it to work, serious voltage spikes can occur causing failure of electrical gauges on dash, body control module and electrical control module failure and wiring harness shorts, causing very time consuming troubleshooting. The fuses will not always go first if it is a fast spike of energy

This is unfortunately a common problem with the console, you are eventually going to just get the three red lights and the unit will be dead. Call Microsoft now to get them to replace the unit. You can call them at 1-800-4-My-Xbox

Sony kv32f513

First of all check the fuse, if burnt then replace it and if fuse is ok then the problem is in power supply section, First check all the capacitor along with main power supply capacitor(300v) (in larg size) if popped then replace and if ok then check STR.
One important thing that if you are not an expert then just check fuse and main capacitor and if you don't find the fault then contact any expert, don't go further.
Hope you will understand my sayings.
Thanks for using fixya.

Dead microsoft xbox

Replacing the Power supply unit, PSU, is very simple. It is about 4 screws in the system. You can pick up a replacement on ebay for $10-20. Also, a new (used) xbox is usually around $30 on craigslist. Hope this helps.
