Just bought a tomtom one third series and now it is stuck on a screen that is similar to that shown when synchronizing but with a big flashing x. HELP!!! Thanks

My Tom Tom One thrd addition was not "tracking", So I shut it down and turned it back on and have the Tom Tom "update screen" with a flashing white X in a red circle. I tried the reset button without success. same thing, i was on the coputer and i only ejected the divice, and it turned off, turn it back on and X was flashing, i just bougth the thing on 11/23/07 i will take it back to the store hope to get money back, and will get a garmin!!!!!

I have the same problem. Just an orange screen with a picture of a TomTom and a flashing red circle with a white X on it. It seemed to work fine until I did the update. It has never even been in my car. Restoring a back up does not help and resetting does not help either.
How come the web site says we can email questions but I can not fine an email address anywhere? I have the same problem. Tom Tom One worked fine once. Now frozen in the Home position and it automatically zoom out. I have tried turning it off and on hopikng to reset it. What can I doTom Tom One worked fine once. You can't post conmments that contain an email address.
You need to format and reload your unit. The BIG RED X, is b/c your memory somehow is corrupted. Although odd that it's straight from the store like that. As long as you have all the software to re-load your unit's software.. then everything will be fine afterwards. Let me know if I can help in any other way prior to rating please.

Reformatting the TomTom is really a bad idea. Many people who have done it reported that they lost their maps... and after this you don't have many options, except buying new maps.
Have you tried the RESET button on the bottom of the GPS?
Tap the screen, so that the menus are displayed, then tap the wrench, tap forward until icon of flags is shown. tap the flag icon and then select english.
Connect your TomTom to the USB cable then turn on your TomTom in that order. Go to "My Computer" and open the drive that is your TomTom. Copy and paste your map folder to the desktop. Delete everything on your TomTom (don't format). After deleting everything on your TomTom. Open TomTom Home. TomTom Home will tell you, you need an application for your TomTom. Let TomTom Home load the application. You will probably have to do this at least 2 times to get the latest application for your device. After TomTom Home has loaded the latest application for your device closer TomTom Home and copy and paste your map back onto your TomTom. You should be ready to go after doing this. Make sure you do not skip a step when doing this.
Hi, Not a nice problem that. Try connecting your tomtom to PC ( not through home ) so the tomtom will look like a USB drive in "My Computer". if TomTom Home tries to load up , cancel it. Look in "My Compuer" If you do see the TomTom as a drive , open it up and copy the folders and files to your PC. If that works, now you have a backup and you can have a mess around knowing that if you mess things up , at least you can put things back as they were and you won't have made anything worse than it was before. Once thats done , try a harder reset in normal way but also hold the ON button in whilst doing the reset . Many people press too hard on the reset button and also hold it too long so just give one single press , only hard enough to feel it click in , then out. Thats all it needs for a reset and it avoide damaging the switch ( yes , I have seen many reset switched stuck in or broken ). I think theres 2 possible causes for your problem . 1/ You now have a corrupted file on your TomTom preventing the boot-up continuing. 2/ Your Tomtom is still trying to perform the last function ( backing up through TomTom-home ) and has somehow got stuck in that loop. For the moment , try the above and see how you get on and if you donn't solve it please post on this forum again .
I was having a similar problem where i would go through the setup screens until I was selecting the map and then it would restart. What worked for me was to connect it to my computer and choose Operate My Device from the third page of options in TomTom Home. This let me progress through the remaining set up screens and get to the point where I could enter an addres again.
Don't know if this will work for everyone, but it seems to have done the trick for me.
