Try performing print head cleaning from the hp toolbox or start -> printers and faxes -> right click on your printer -> printings preferences -> maintenance or similiar.

Print head cleaning, and print head alingment / nozzle check.

If that doesn't help reseat the cartridges, if you have another set of cartridges try them. Are these old cartridges? possibly dryed up?

Remove the cartridge from the printer if the print-head cleaner doesn't cause ink to flow. Soak it in a bowl or sink filled with enough warm water to immerse the print head nozzles, long enough to see ink beginning to dissolve and flow into the water. Alternately, you can soak a cloth in warm water and use it to clean the nozzles until you see ink begin to flow.

Thoroughly dry the nozzles with a soft, lint-free cloth once the cleaning process is complete.

Replace the cartridge into the printer and run the printer's print-head cleaning utility.

Repeat the cleaning procedure if the cartridge still doesn't print. Reinstall and once again run the print-head cleaning utility.

1. Turn on the unit, then open the print-carriage access door by lifting the
handle until the door locks into place. The print carriage moves to the center of the unit.

2. After the carriage stops moving, lift the latch to release the print cartridge, then pull it toward you out of its slot.

3. If you are removing the black print cartridge in order to install the photo print cartridge, store it in the print cartridge protector.

4. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape.

5. Push the new print cartridge into the appropriate slot until it clicks into place. The tri-color print cartridge goes on the left and the black or photo print cartridge goes on the right.

To align the print cartridges when prompted:
1. Press Enter on the front panel. A page of patterns is printed. The cartridges are aligned correctly. Recycle or discard the page.

To align the cartridges at any other time:

Paper jam cleared but wont start

  1. Unplug the power cable.

Cartridge jam displayed

Follow these instructions: Moving the carriage
  1. With the all-in-one turned on, open the print cartridge access door. The print carriage might try to come to move into the access area. Allow it to move to that position if it does.
  2. Without turning off the all-in-one, disconnect the power cord from the back of the all-in-one. The power cord must be disconnected to allow the parts to be moved by hand and to reset the paper feed mechanism.
  3. Looking in through either the print cartridge access door or the output paper tray, verify that the print cartridges are locked into the carriage and have not come loose. Also verify that there are no obstructions under or around the carriage to block it from moving.
  4. Verify that the print carriage can move freely across the width of the all-in-one by gently pushing the carriage to the left and then to the right. Clear any obstructions found. You may have to reach through the output paper tray to access the print carriage.
  5. Close the print cartridge access door and reconnect the power cord.
  6. Press the On button to turn on the all-in-one.
  7. Print the self test from the menu to check the functionality of the product by following these steps:
    • Press Setup , press 2 , and then press 6 in sequence. (The printer should be in ready mode.)
  8. If the self test printed in the step above, then try to print from the computer to see if the issue is resolved.
    • If the issue is resolved , you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions on this page.
    • If the issue is not resolved , continue to the next step.
Step two: Plug the product directly into a wall outlet Verify that the product is properly connected to a suitable power source by following the instructions below.
  1. Verify that the computer and the all-in-one product have a three-prong power plug.
  2. Remove the product cable from any power strips or surge suppressors, and plug it directly into a grounded (three-prong) wall outlet.
  3. Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue.
    • If the issue is resolved , you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions on this page.

Cartridge cradle is stuck

I have had this problem with my 7550 for a while now and I finally found this on the HP website and it seems to have fixed my problem, I also replaced all of the cartridges:

Issue While printing from an HP Photosmart printer, the printer screen displays Print cartridge cradle is stuck / clear jam and then press OK . The printer may also make grinding sounds. This can occur after a paper jam when another printer part blocks the cradle. Solution Follow these instructions to adjust the clutch on the printer.
  1. Disconnect the USB cable.
  2. Press the printer power button to turn off the printer.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  4. Open the top cover of the printer.
  5. Remove the print cartridges from the printer.
  6. Slide the cradle to the right side of the printer.
  7. Locate the clutch on the left side of the printer.
NOTE: The clutch is a flat, white, plastic component that rests just above the white roller gear wheel. In the HP Photosmart P1000 and P1100 printers, the clutch is black metal. Figure 1: Printer clutch c00020494.jpg
  8. Remove the rear access door from the back of the printer.
  9. Press the clutch firmly towards the back of the printer, while rolling the wheels in the back of the printer upward two full rotations.
  10. Release the clutch and roll the wheels up two more rotations.
  11. Reinstall the rear access door.
  12. Reinstall the print cartridges and secure the latches in place.
  13. Close the top cover and reconnect the power cord.
  14. Turn on the printer.
  15. Print a test page.
