Its a hard drive error you have a bad sector in the drive its defective. If its still under warranty call dell hardware support with the error code. If not buy a new 2.5" drive they are not to spendy. I just replaced mine with a 250g 7200 and my computer works great now.

The laptop screen is almost blank/black. an external monitor is working ok. when i close the lid of the laptop and open it again the screen comes on for a sec but then goes off again almost blank/black....

As per Dell Technical support LCD kit needs to be Replaced.

I Would recommend to
Run PSA Diagnostics. Check for PSA Error codes

if unable see display during PSA Diagnostics use External monitor to make note of Error code.

Check Error code on support.dell.com

If no Error codes. Then Only option is replace LCD kit

When i open my computer, its running but after a few minutes its automatically turn off

There could be a hardware problem on the computer if it just stays for a couple of minutes and automatically turns off. I would suggest to run a Diagnostic test first

1. Turn on computer
2. Tap F12 on the dell logo screen
3. Select Diagnostic Test
4. Finish the test (approximately 10-15min.)
5. If there are error codes, it means there is a hardware problem

Provide me the error codes, and i will tell you which causes the problem.

Ran diagnostic on dell inspirion got error code

OK, that is EASY. That basically means the optical drive (cdrom/dvdrom drive) does not "see" anything in it. If you do not have a disc inside it during the diagnostic, open the drive and insert a disc, then click RETRY. HOWEVER, if you DO have a disc inside and you get an error, that COULD mean you have a scratched or damaged lens in the drive, OR, you could have a bad disc in it. Try it again with several other cd discs. if they all fail with the same error, that means the drive needs to be replaced. Good luck. :)
