Question about Toshiba Satellite A135-S2386 Notebook

2 Answers

My Toshiba laptop shutdown unexpectedly (battery wasn't locked in when I lifted it off the desk). Now it won't restart. Goes through the Toshiba start-up, Windows logo, then to to Windows error screen giving me the options to recover (safe mode, last known etc). Continually cycles like this with no start-up. Any advice - thanks.

Thanks but that's the problem. I select boot in safe or last known good config but it doesn't boot in that mode - always shuts down and re boots in the "error" screen. Thanks

Try to recover it first by using the last known good configuration. If it still wont work then go to Safe Mode first for you to make a back-up copy of your important files. If you're done doing back-up you can now reformat your PC. If you have a recovery disk, try to use it to restore your laptop to the factory settings. Check your manual or get help from a friend if you're not sure how to format. I hope this will help.

Boot the computer using safe mode, this should correct the problem. if it is window vista, then get a vista cd boot from the cd, then click on repair my computer and restore the computer back to the date that ot worked perfectly, this won't delete your recent files. good luck

It may be overheating. Try using a vacuum cleaner hose on the air vents, that will help to clear the ventilation for the radiator.

Unexpected shutdowns

Unexpected shutdowns could be an overheating problem.
When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a can of compressed air to do this.

How do I recover from an unexpected shutdown of my laptop?

Most unexpected shutdowns are from thermal signals from the processor or from a memory module failure. Get some cans of compressed air from an office supply store and with all power disconnected and the battery removed, use small bursts of air and blow out all the ventilation frills on the laptop, including all access doors and cd/dvd tray or slot. If it continues after the cleanout, try powering down and removing one memory module and run the laptop. If it dies not shut down, swap out the modules and try again. if it fails, then you know what the problem is.

If the Computer restarts randomly, then the issue might be due to any damaged Operating System Files.
But, if the Computer shuts down randomly, it is due to the Processor.
All the Processors will be designed in such a way that, if there is any overheating issues, the Computer will shut down randomly.
The overheating might occur due to the malfunction of the Cooling Fan in the Computer.
As this is a overheating issue, it would be better to get the Unit examined at the Service Center.
Replacing the Cooling Fan in the Computer should resolve the issue.

May be caused by excessive heat on the processor, or the hard drive may be overheating. Both will cause unexplained, random, and unexpected shutdown.
