Question about Washing Machines

Washer motor / gear makes a clunking sound after running a while ,sounds like something breaking up.Small 6 inch disc under motor maybe the problem. Otherwise runs great. Just when washing, noise is heard.

Hi, could be drum bearing wearing down.the disc you found sounds like the outter ring of it.just reduce your load if you want get more life out of m/c.the bearing will have to be replaced if you want to continue using this m/c. to check, with power disconnected, rotate the drum slowly by hand---if you feel a gritty feeling in your hands, then its the bearings. was this helpful? regards paig

Washer makes loud clunking noise after spin

No that would not be your problem. I assume this is a direct drive system and if it is did you check the motor coupler although what you are describing it sounds like your gear case is going bad. Good Luck!

Power windows won't work. they are not rolling up or down.

It can only be one of a few things. First if it is the switch it won't make any sound at all when you press the button. If you can hear a sound, then the motor is running. If it has a 'clunk-clunk-clunk' sound to it then the gear plugs in the window motor need replacing which always happens around 10 years old. If you hear the motor running without the 'clunk-clunk-clunk' then the regulator cable has jumped track and the regulator will need replacing.

Washer clunking

Look just inside the door. Between the door and the tub. Feel around behind the rubber boot that seals the tub to the door. See if you find a bic lighter, pocket knife or something like this.

Clunking noise every 5 seconds

You should check the compressor compartment and see if the fan motor (if it has one) is hitting something. Possibly a dead mouse?( I have seen this before) Also check if compressor mounts are secure. Hope this helps.

Motor runs but blade does not move. Sounds like gear stripped or maybe clutch slipping.

It sounds like the spocket gear is stripped, the smaller gear drive may be stripped also. You will need to replace these parts. You can order them online at www.masterparts.net. The part should be listed in your owner's manual. If you do not have an owner's manual you can give your model number and I can try to find a copy for you. They also may have a parts break down Master Parts website. I hope this helps you!

can you reach inside the unit and grab tub and lift it up(as if perhaps the rear shaft has loosened causing more then a 1/4 inch of play in inner drum??? if that s the case sounds as if perhaps you have a bad rear bearing (over $700 in parts alone)

Washer makes noises

You said, when the washer is going into spin cycle it makes a loud clunking noise. You are wondering if this could be the brakes or possibly the pump?

Sounds like this!

Faulty direct drive Coupling (Whirlpool / Kenmore / Roper / Estate)
The direct drive (motor) Coupling may be broken. Many Whirlpool/Kenmore brands washing machines utilize a small, relatively inexpensive direct drive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other.

It can wear out over time or fail under overloading conditions. This protects your transmission from excessive loading.
it can also be a broken spring or strut dependping on your washes make and type
