Dyson small ball multi floor vacuum cleaner purchased in Australia
Hi there please help - we are so very dissapointed with our new purchase, we unpacked the vacuum, all set up as per instructions this isn't our first Dyson.
Within 3 or 4 sweeps of the carpet the brush bar stops spinning, tried it out on our wooden floors all good there, reduced the bar to minimum again the same thing happens on the carpet.
I phoned Dyson explained this model was brand new and purchased an hour ago, they said this shouldn't happen and they could send me a new head or take it back to the shop for a replacement.
Unfortunately the same thing is happening to the new one, I dare say it's probably my carpet not the machine.
Now while on the phone to Dyson the operator assured me Dyson were tested on all types of carpet, my carpet is thick but nothing a Dyson shouldn't be able to handle my old machine was fine.
Any ideas I'm so very annoyed and disappointed at the moment because when the brush is actually spinning the dust pick up is fantastic.
The Dyson is, mostly worthless. Hubby has looked into it, onlne. Few users like it. Ergo, mostly hype. We use a used Kirby. Have since the '70's. Just a thought. The Dyson is, mostly worthless. Re: Dyson small ball multi floor vacuum cleaner purchased...
Aussie electrical current may be different than our US current. England's is. Converters are needed to plug in a toothbrush in England. Likely Australia is the same. We've lived on a dirt road for 32 years, in New Mexico. We call dust "enchantment." Mostly ignore it. Check out the electrical conversion from them to us. Likely there is way to convert their currency? to ours. Electrical currents.
We have 240V here, all appliances are designed for 240V the same as most of the world and the UK. The Dyson was sold with an Australian plug and should be no different to any Dyson sold in the world. I put 3 turns of electrical tape around the area of the beater bar that meets the vacuum belt. This solved the problem short of replacing the beater bar.
You probably just have a broken belt. The belt needs to be changed about every 6 months regardless. I believe yours takes a style EXT U(Extended life upright), or a regular Eureka "U" belt works fine too.
That is an indication that the belts are worn, stretched or broken. You simply need to replace the belt. Here is a link to the belt(s) you need and a manual you can view:

i just got rid of my dyson dc 39 multifloor big ball vacuum. im guessing you have a high pile rug which the vacuum is not mostly intended for it works best with low pile carpets. that said there is a way, turn the brush part upside down so that the brushes are facing you,, at the front their are two screws if you unscrew them you will be able to lift up just the front long part of the brushroll, it has the option of being screwed on high or low so that you get better vacuuming from high pile carpets good luck
From what you've described, it sounds as if you may have a blockage inside your machine's internal hose or changeover valve. This is housed within the ball assembly, so it may not be immediately noticeable. Please follow the steps shown in the images below:

Please read this answer all the way through there is something that may be relevant (strike out 'important') at the end !
Maybe it's this
"clip that holds the filter in place and the locating lug of the access flap to gently rub together as the ball rotates and create a slight clicking noise as the appliance is moved around (though is not routinely noticed due to the motor noise)"
(from Fully Cleaned Serviced Refurbished Dyson DC25 Animal Ball Vacuum Cleaner )
stop press - I just saw this - if you do not have proper Dyson brand HEPA filters - see end of answer - you may get a loud clicking sound....
The manual tells you about removal and cleaning HEPA filter - the All floors version has one as well)
Otherwise I can only refer to Dyson support, there are various ways of contacting them given at the top right of this webpage Support forDC25 Multi Floor
(the user guide manual is downloadable from this webpage)
Sounds to me as if maybe there is an irregularity on the ball that is contacting the body/ball housing every time the ball does round....unfortunately this makes the ball diameter ~8cm which too small.
As with many Dyson upright vacuums, DC40's brush bar is engineered to shut off for protection if something - for example, a shoelace or a rug fringe - jams it. To reset your machine, please follow the steps shown in our video guide:
Checking the cleaner head for any obstructions, and removing any threads or hair from the brush bar and end caps, should resolve the issue.
