Hey Steve, if you need a jump to start it then every thing is working except battery holding power try putting battery on a SLOW charge for a day then try again when its running check output of altinator with a fully charged battery it should be 12.5-13.5 volts and rise when you rev motor up ,when you jump it im thinking the battery is very low and the altinator is trying to recharge battery and it cant do that in just a few minutes running time or take it on along ride and watch amp gauge .good luck Steve.

Even when I run my bike pipe is so hot cant ride safely as I have to lift my leg out of the way bc pipe is burning hot. Without touching it already have burn scars on my leg.
G'day. Sound very much like a low charge rate(your bike is not recharging the battery). You need to have the bikes charge rate checked. Basically-your bike should charge at a rate of 13.4- 14.2volts(DC) when running. If it's not- the battery will keep going flat. The test is performed by starting the bike & placing a voltmeter across the battery to measure the output. It's a relativily quick & easy test to perform that only takes a few seconds-but if the charge rate is low then its caused usually by the regulator or the alternator(stator). If you have a multimeter-or know someone who does-then the test is pritty easy & you need to do that before you go any further. If you do it yourself- set the meter to Volts DC at a range higher than 15volts(if the meter is not auto-ranging) run the bike with the volt meter probes touching the Battery(black probe to battery negative-red test probe to battery posative) & observe the voltage reading. You want 13.5 to 14.2v. If you can't do it yourself then an auto-electrician or bike shop should be able to do it while you wait for just a few dollars.(only the test though- if the charge rate is low then you have then other issues to solve)
I hope this was of some help Kind regards Andrew Porrelli
Try disconnecting the battery and note if the voltage drops.
If it does, the battery is not holding a charge.
If it keeps its voltage, the problem lies in a minor short in the mower.
You have to determine which item has the problem first.
Is it getting too hot to run properly? Most air-cooled motors run plenty hot compared to their water cooled counterparts.
If you think the bike is running too hot because of running issues I would check the usual suspects. Timing, spark, fuel.
You will need a timing light and a clymer or factory manual if you got one with the bike. The spark plug just needs checking to see if its worn down causing its own issues with timing *(with the side benefit of seeing if the bike is running too lean. A bone white spark plug electrode tip cover=too lean)
This is to say that bad timing, widened/worn spark plug or lean fuel mix can all cause a bike to run hotter than normal. But they all usually come along with driveability issues as well.
So....check it out....be careful....and good luck!
Initially, pls try recharging the battery again. Remove the connector to the voltage regulator. Start/run the bike. If it lasts more than "3-5 minutes" then you have just confirmed a defective regulator. The voltage regulator would look something like below image.
